Locarno fest opens door to Indian classics

MUMBAI: The Open Doors screening at the 64th Locarno International Film Festival will present 13 Indian classics and also a retrospective of Satyajit Ray.


Among the classics are Raj Kapoor‘s Aag, Halodia Choraye Baodhan (The Yellow Birds) by Khai Jahnu Barua, Kanassembo Kudureyyaneri (Riding the Stallion of a Dream) by Girish Kasaravalli, Shyam Benegal‘s Manthan, Ritwik Ghatak‘s Meghe Dhaka Tara (The Cloud-Clapped Star), Mr and Mrs. Iyer by Aparna Sen, Pyaasa by Guru Dutt and Udaan by Vikramaditya Motwane among others.


 
The films that will be screened in the Satyajit Ray Retrospective are Charulata, Joy Baba Felunath, Kapurush, Mahapurush, Mahanagar and Nayak.


Besides, the festival will award US producer Mike Medavoy with the Raimondo Rezzonico Prize. Medavoy is known for his films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo‘s Nest (1975) by Milos Forman, Rocky (1976) by John G. Avildsen, Annie Hall (1977) by Woody Allen and Apocalypse Now (1979) by Francis Ford Coppola.


The Festival will be held from 14 to 20 November this year.
