Lights, camera, dialogue as MIFF 2026 Day 3 serves masterclasses and workshops
Day 3 blends theatre, documentary and cinematography insights at Mumbai festival
MUMBAI: Lights, camera, conversation took centre stage on Day 3 of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026, as filmmakers, critics and technicians turned the spotlight on craft, memory and storytelling through a packed line-up of masterclasses, open forums and workshops.
The day opened with a masterclass titled Stanislavski and the Search for Human Truth: From Theatre to Documentary Cinema, led under the aegis of MIFF 2026 by Fabrice Carrey, whose session explored the fluid boundary between theatre performance and documentary realism, drawing strong engagement from attendees.
In his session, MIFF 2026 French stage director and creative artist Fabrice Carrey said, “Stanislavski’s approach to human emotion continues to shape how we understand truth on screen, especially in documentary storytelling.”
The dialogue then shifted to preservation and memory with an IDPA open forum titled Documentary as a Means of Archiving Men, Moments and Memories, organised under IDPA. The panel brought together diverse voices including Suresh Sharma, Roopa Baruah, Yunus Khan and Amborish Roychoudhury, with moderation by Sanjit Narwekar.
Speaking during the session, IDPA documentary filmmaker Suresh Sharma said, “Documentaries are not just records of events, they are living archives of people and their times.”
The final segment of the day focused on visual storytelling with a hands-on workshop titled Core Craft and Visual Language: The Soul of Cinematography, led under MIFF 2026 by Modhura Palit, who guided participants through the nuances of framing, lighting and emotional texture in cinematography.
MIFF 2026 award-winning cinematographer Modhura Palit said, “Cinematography is not just about capturing images, it is about shaping how audiences feel a story before they even understand it.”
With packed sessions and active audience participation across formats, Day 3 of MIFF 2026 reinforced the festival’s role as a creative laboratory where cinema is not only screened but also dissected, debated and reimagined.
