Cinepolis to open 14-screen multiplex in Thane

MUMBAI: Cinépolis India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mexico-based mutliplex chain Cinépolis, will launch a 14-screen multiplex in Thane in the next two months. The new plex will be housed in Sheth Develelopers’ retail space Vivacity.


But will the concept of a fourteen-screener work in Thane? “Yes” says Cinepolis India head of strategies, Devang Sampat. He is of the belief that the city of Thane has major unexplored potential. “Knowing well that the acceptance of different types of cinema will also be a factor, we will be screening regional films as well,” he adds. 


The megaplex will be the largest cinema complex in the country of which three screens will be dedicated to Cinepolis VIPs, while the rest will have regular shows. The VIP screens will be smaller in size with recliner seats and separate lounges and washrooms.


Large format megaplexes allow for more titles to be played and for titles to stay in theater for a longer first run. The fully digital state-of-the-art cinema facility will showcase over 80 shows in a single day offering patrons with nprecedented flexibility in choice of film titles and choice of show timings.


Avers Sampat, “On an average if we screen six films a day, we willhave 84 shows. That means there will be six shows every hour and one every 10 minutes.”


Apart from creating a compelling movie going experience, Cinépolis popular services would also include advanced technology enabled mobile & internet ticketing with Cineticket.


The ticket prices will at par with other multiplexes in the city.


The multiplex chain plans to open 500 screens across India by 2016. It has till date signed 200 screens in 15 cities with more than 10 developers.

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s popularity contest has a new weekly scorecard, and the numbers are telling. IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities list for this week places Shanaya Kapoor at number six, buoyed by buzz around her film Tu Yaa Main. Naila Grrewal slots in at seven on the back of the returning comedy series Maamla Legal Hai, while Rashmika Mandanna climbs to eighth, riding mounting anticipation for Cocktail 2.

The list, available exclusively on the IMDb app for Android and iOS, tracks trending Indian entertainers and filmmakers each week, drawing on data from more than 200m monthly visits to the platform worldwide.

Further down the rankings, Raaka is keeping two of its biggest names in the spotlight. Deepika Padukone holds 11th position, with Allu Arjun close behind at 13th, as the film continues to find traction with audiences.

The list offers fans a weekly pulse on who is breaking through, who is holding steady, and who is fading. It is a barometer as unsparing as the box office itself.
