MUMBAI: One moment it’s another ordinary suburban street; the next, it’s a cosmic game of survival. Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled The End of Oak Street, a new science-fiction thriller that throws an unsuspecting neighbourhood into chaos after a mysterious cosmic event tears it away from reality and drops it into an unknown world. Set to release in cinemas and IMAX across India in August 2026, the film stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, alongside Maisy Stella and Christian Convery, in a story that blends family drama, mystery and large-scale sci-fi spectacle.

At the centre of the narrative is the Platt family, whose quiet suburban existence is shattered when Oak Street is abruptly transported from its familiar surroundings to a place beyond comprehension. With their neighbourhood suddenly transformed into an alien landscape, survival becomes less about finding answers and more about staying together.

The film is written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, best known for crafting unsettling and atmospheric stories that blur the boundaries between reality and the unknown. Here, he appears to scale up that approach, turning an entire neighbourhood into a puzzle box suspended somewhere between science fiction and survival thriller.

Behind the camera, the project brings together an accomplished creative team. Michael Gioulakis serves as director of photography, while Maya Shimoguchi handles production design. Editing is led by John Axelrad, with an original score from acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino and costumes designed by Erin Benach.

The film is backed by an impressive production lineup that includes J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, Jon Cohen, David Robert Mitchell, Matt Jackson and Tommy Harper, with executive producers Chris Bender, Jake Weiner, Joanne Lee and Leeann Stonebreaker.

Produced under the banners of Bad Robot Productions and Jackson Pictures, The End of Oak Street joins a growing slate of high-concept Hollywood films exploring themes of displacement, family bonds and survival through a science-fiction lens.

While many sci-fi stories send heroes across galaxies, The End of Oak Street takes a different route moving an entire street instead. And if its premise is anything to go by, the biggest mystery won’t just be where Oak Street has gone, but whether its residents can ever find their way home.
