Alejandro G Iñárritu’s Digger starring Tom Cruise to release on October 2
Original film also stars Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman and Jesse Plemons
MUMBAI: Tom Cruise is digging into another high-stakes mission, but this time the threat is not coming from above, it is one he may have helped unleash. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu returns with his original film Digger, starring Cruise in the title role, with the film set to release in cinemas and IMAX across India on October 2, 2026.
Digger follows the world’s most powerful man as he embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s saviour before a disaster he has unleashed destroys everything. The film brings Cruise into Iñárritu’s original storytelling universe, with a cast that also includes Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Oscar nominee Jesse Plemons.
Iñárritu directs the film from a screenplay by Iñárritu, Oscar winners Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. The story is by Berman, Iñárritu and Jez Butterworth.
The film is produced by Iñárritu, Oscar nominee Mary Parent and Cruise, with Joshua Grode serving as executive producer.
Behind the camera, Iñárritu has reunited with several previous collaborators. Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki leads the cinematography, while Conor O’Neill and Oscar winner Stephen Mirrione handle editing.
The creative team also includes Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West, Oscar-winning makeup and hair designer Alessandro Bertolazzi, Oscar-nominated casting director Francine Maisler, Oscar-winning production designer Dennis Gassner, production designer Richard Johnson, Oscar-winning prosthetic makeup designer Kazu Hiro and composer Cosmo Sheldrake.
Digger has been shot entirely in VistaVision, with the format adding a large-scale visual canvas to the film’s theatrical presentation. Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film in India across cinemas and IMAX from October 2.
The film comes from Legendary Pictures and is presented by Warner Bros. Pictures as an Alejandro G. Iñárritu film, putting Cruise and the Oscar-winning filmmaker together for an original story built around power, catastrophe and a race against time.
With Cruise at the centre and Iñárritu behind the camera, Digger is set to bring an original high-stakes drama to Indian screens this October.
