MUMBAI: History is getting a quick-commerce makeover. Zepto has teamed up with The Hindu to bring back the newspaper’s 15 August 1947 edition as a limited-edition collector’s piece, available exclusively on Zepto.

The initiative recreates the historic newspaper published on India’s first day of Independence, featuring its original headlines, stories, photographs of freedom fighters and advertisements from the era.

The reprint comes housed in a vintage-inspired commemorative sleeve, designed to recreate the feeling of receiving a newspaper in 1947 while turning the edition into a keepsake for future generations.

The limited-edition copies will be delivered through Zepto, bringing a piece of India’s newspaper history to consumers in minutes.

The collaboration also taps into the growing interest in nostalgia-led brand experiences, using a historic publication to connect India’s past with the convenience of quick commerce.

Zepto chief brand officer Chandan Mendiratta said the vintage envelope was designed to resemble something a family might have preserved from 1947, with the newspaper inside serving as the central collectible.

He described the edition as a reminder of how far India has come and an inspiration for how far it can go.

Zepto chief business officer Devendra Meel said the company had teamed up with The Hindu to reprint the newspaper, retaining its headlines, stories and advertisements from the day India became independent.

The commemorative packaging is designed to take readers through India’s road to freedom, adding another layer to the archival newspaper.

The campaign brings together Zepto’s quick-commerce proposition with The Hindu’s publishing legacy, turning a newspaper that is nearly eight decades old into an object that can be ordered and delivered in minutes.

For Zepto, the initiative is also a reminder that quick commerce can deliver more than groceries and everyday essentials. This time, it is delivering a slice of history, albeit in limited copies.
