Yash’s Toxic explodes at box office with Rs 140 crore worldwide on Day 1

MUMBAI: Toxic has turned its opening day into a box office blockbuster. Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, starring Yash in his first major release after KGF: Chapter 2, has reportedly collected more than Rs 140 crore worldwide on Day 1.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action drama had been projected to open at around Rs 110 crore globally. Strong advance bookings and Yash’s pan-India following helped the film outperform those initial estimates.

Toxic has reportedly recorded around Rs 101 crore in India net collections, translating into a domestic gross of approximately Rs 120 crore. Overseas collections are estimated at more than $2 million, or around Rs 20 crore.

The Hindi-dubbed version emerged as the strongest contributor in India, with an estimated Rs 55 crore net, while the Kannada original is reported to have collected around Rs 25 crore net.

The film’s reported worldwide opening puts it ahead of several recent Indian blockbusters on their respective Day 1 global collections.

However, Toxic has not surpassed Yash’s own opening-day record. KGF: Chapter 2 reportedly grossed around Rs 164 crore worldwide on its first day.

The film features Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.

With a runtime of more than three hours, the film has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), with no cuts. Its mature themes and action-heavy treatment have positioned it firmly as an adults-only theatrical release.

The film is estimated to have been made on a budget ranging between Rs 300 crore and Rs 500 crore, putting pressure on its theatrical run to sustain the strong opening.

While the opening numbers point to strong audience interest, early reactions to Toxic have been mixed. Yash’s screen presence and the film’s visual style have received praise, while its lengthy runtime, pacing and aggressive tone have drawn criticism.

The key test now will be whether the film can convert its huge Day 1 opening into sustained collections. For Toxic, the first-day rush may have been explosive, but the longer box office story will depend on what audiences say after the hype wears off.
