Wardwizard Foods swings to Rs 1.31 crore Q1 profit as commodities drive recovery
Food commodities and services offset losses in ready-to-eat, frozen and sauce business
VADODARA: Wardwizard Foods has cooked up a turnaround in the first quarter of FY27, with the food and beverages company swinging to a net profit of Rs 1.31 crore despite continued losses in its ready-to-eat, frozen food and sauces business.
The BSE-listed company reported a net profit of Rs 130.93 lakh for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with a loss of Rs 169.51 lakh in Q1 FY26. The latest profit was, however, lower than the Rs 298.87 lakh recorded in the previous quarter.
Revenue from operations rose 29.1 per cent year on year to Rs 17.03 crore from Rs 13.20 crore. Other income contributed another Rs 62.14 lakh, taking total revenue to Rs 17.65 crore.
The results were approved by the board on August 14 following a 40-minute meeting.
The company’s food commodities business emerged as the biggest contributor to the quarter’s performance.
The segment generated revenue of Rs 13.90 crore and reported a profit of Rs 28.71 lakh before tax. The services business added Rs 2.99 crore in revenue and delivered a segment profit of Rs 51.79 lakh.
The ready-to-eat, frozen, sauces and mayonnaise segment, however, remained under pressure. It generated just Rs 14.09 lakh in revenue and posted a segment loss of Rs 1.94 crore.
The contrasting performance shows where Wardwizard’s quarterly profit came from. While the consumer-facing food business continues to weigh on earnings, commodities and services provided enough support to keep the company in the black.
Total expenses stood at Rs 16.52 crore, compared with Rs 15.05 crore a year earlier and Rs 38.78 crore in Q4 FY26.
Purchases of stock-in-trade accounted for the largest share at Rs 12.19 crore. Finance costs stood at Rs 1.15 crore, while depreciation and amortisation came in at Rs 1.10 crore.
Material consumption was Rs 96.09 lakh, with other expenses at Rs 75.45 lakh and employee benefits at Rs 36.27 lakh.
Profit before tax stood at Rs 1.14 crore. A deferred tax credit of Rs 17.38 lakh helped lift net profit to Rs 1.31 crore. Total comprehensive income was slightly higher at Rs 1.32 crore.
Basic and diluted earnings per share stood at Rs 0.05 on a face value of Rs 1 per share.
Wardwizard reported total segment assets of Rs 215.22 crore at the end of June, against total liabilities of Rs 132.29 crore. Paid-up equity share capital remained unchanged at Rs 25.71 crore.
The company’s statutory auditors, Arun Ratnawat & Associates, issued an unmodified limited review report for the quarter. The corresponding June 2025 figures had been reviewed by the predecessor auditor, which had issued a qualified conclusion in August 2025.
The board also noted an outstanding advance of Rs 7.60 crore. Based on its assessment of recoverability, the company said no provision or expected credit loss recognition was required.
There were no pending investor complaints at the end of the quarter.
The results were signed by managing director Sheetal Mandar Bhalerao, chief financial officer Sejal Varia and company secretary Bindu Patidar.
For Wardwizard, the latest quarter marks a notable shift from last year’s loss. The challenge now is to turn the commodity-led recovery into a broader turnaround, particularly by bringing its loss-making ready-to-eat and sauces business back into the recipe for profit.
