BENGALURU: From a C and Unix desk in Hyderabad to the top of Nielsen’s engineering ladder: Vyomkesh Tiwari has made his move count. In October 2026, he became vice president, technology at Nielsen, taking charge of global engineering teams for the company’s core business, US TAM National and Local. Based in Bengaluru in a hybrid role, he steps up after more than two years at the measurement giant, where he served as senior director, technology from August 2024 to September 2026.

The promotion tells a story that goes beyond one job title. Tiwari’s career reads like a masterclass in scaling technology across very different industries. He began in December 2009 as a software developer at CSC, working on AT&T and RMG modules in C, Java and Unix. There he designed a low-level design to move reporting and analytics away from costly proprietary software, took it to his engineering manager and leads, coded it end to end and deployed it in production. It was his own initiative, and a telling one.

Amazon came next, from July 2012 to July 2015, in the Webstore and AGS teams. He worked on the internationalisation project for launching in new geographies such as Germany, alongside two other developers and one senior engineer. He also took over a C++ reporting application from a team in Arizona, redesigned it in Java to handle scale, secured sign-off from a senior engineer and launched it in production without issues.

At Medlife.com, Tiwari spent four years and one month climbing from senior software engineer to software development manager and then associate director, software development. He built the tech stack of the doctor business and e-consultation from scratch, created Medlife Analytics and Login Services for organisation-wide use, led a team of 15 engineers and ultimately headed the consumer business vertical, covering customer business, doctor business, compliance, platform and e-consultation.

As director of engineering at OYO from August 2019 to July 2021, he led technology for OYO Life, a platform to book a paying guest stay and manage its full life cycle, launched in India, Indonesia and Japan. He also led OYO Campus, which manages the life cycle of a college hostel with applications for students, administrators and parents, and Partner SaaS, which lets hotel owners manage inventory, pricing and listings.

At Clear, as senior director of engineering from July 2021 to August 2024, Tiwari headed engineering for two very different bets. The first was a consumer product that helps individuals file income taxes and invest in mutual funds. He moved it from a free to a paid model and introduced the first version of an AI bot for filing taxes. The second was a global supply chain and financing SaaS for enterprises, covering accounts payable, partner portal, partner KYC, invoice discounting and financing, built for the India and US markets.

The pattern is clear. Tiwari has repeatedly been handed products that needed to be built from scratch, taken global or turned into revenue, and has delivered each time. At Nielsen, the stakes are now bigger: a core business, global teams and a US audience measurement franchise.
