Visa appoints Adrija Banerjee as head of AI practice for North America (senior director)
Former American Express and McKinsey executive joins Visa as senior director
MUMBAI: Visa is adding another layer to its AI leadership. Adrija Banerjee has joined Visa as head of AI practice for North America, taking on the role at the senior director level.
Banerjee announced the move on LinkedIn, saying she was starting a new position at Visa in August 2026. She is based in San Francisco and will lead the company’s AI practice for the North American market.
The appointment comes as financial services companies continue to expand their use of artificial intelligence across areas such as risk management, customer experience, operations and decision-making.
Banerjee joins Visa after more than two years at American Express, where she served as a director from June 2024 to July 2026. Her work there followed a long stint at McKinsey & Company, where she spent nearly seven years across roles including engagement manager, associate, senior analyst and analyst.
Her experience at McKinsey included work involving artificial intelligence, machine learning and risk management. She joined the consulting firm in 2017, initially as an analyst in Gurugram, before moving through roles in the US.
Before McKinsey, Banerjee worked as a solution advisor at Deloitte India. She also completed an internship with ICICI Lombard earlier in her career.
Banerjee’s academic background is rooted in statistics. She holds a Master of Statistics degree from the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, where she studied from 2013 to 2015. She previously completed a BSc Honours degree in statistics from Lady Brabourne College.
Her move to Visa brings together experience across consulting, financial services and AI, giving her a broad base for leading the payments company’s AI agenda in one of its key markets.
The new role also adds to a career increasingly centred on applying AI and data-driven approaches to business and risk. At Visa, Banerjee will now take that experience into a dedicated leadership position focused on AI across North America.
