Uber India president Prabhjeet Singh bids farewell after a decade long stint

MUMBAI: Prabhjeet Singh has stepped down as president of Uber India and South Asia, ending a nearly 11-year stint during which he played a key role in expanding the ride-hailing company’s operations across one of its fastest-growing global markets.

Singh joined Uber in August 2015 as general manager and head of strategy before taking on a series of leadership roles, including general manager for Delhi and North India, director and head of North, East, West and Bangladesh, and director heading cities and growth. He was appointed president of India and South Asia in June 2020.

As president, Singh oversaw Uber’s full profit and loss responsibility for the region and led the business through a period of rapid expansion, with India emerging as Uber’s third-largest market globally and among its fastest-growing operations. Under his leadership, the company expanded beyond ride-hailing into newer mobility and platform offerings while strengthening its presence across India and neighbouring South Asian markets.

Before joining Uber, Singh spent more than nine years at McKinsey & Company, where he rose to associate partner and advised clients across financial services, telecom and consumer technology. He also worked briefly as a senior analyst at Lehman Brothers in London.

An alumnus of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Singh graduated among the top performers in his MBA batch and was recognised with the KVS Gold Medal and the Aditya Birla Scholarship.

His departure marks the end of a leadership chapter that coincided with significant growth for Uber in India, although the company has not yet announced his successor or disclosed his next professional move.
