MUMBAI: Grey is getting its moment in the sun, and STUDDS is giving it a patriotic spin. STUDDS Accessories has launched ‘The Colour of Honour’, an Independence Day campaign built around a limited-edition Nardo Grey helmet range inspired by the visual language of India’s defence forces.

Developed with digital marketing agency Digichefs, the campaign connects the subdued grey of military aircraft, warships and camouflage with the everyday freedom of riding on Indian roads. Its central thought, ‘Freedom wears grey’, positions the colour as a symbol of quiet strength and resilience rather than simply a design choice.

The limited-edition collection comprises 1,947 units, a deliberate reference to 1947, the year India gained independence. The helmets span seven models Ray Super, Vogue, Raider Super, Helios, Drifter, Trooper and Ninja Elite Super and are available in both gloss and matt finishes.

The campaign takes audiences through three phases. The pre-launch uses greyscale match-cuts and helmet silhouettes to tease the colour, followed by a product reveal drawing on references to the Army, Air Force and Navy.

The Independence Day leg centres on the #RideYourDream contest, with three riders who share their stories of freedom on two wheels set to win helmets from the Nardo Grey range. STUDDS is also supporting a group of riders travelling from Bihar to Nepal as part of its Independence Day initiative.

The colour itself taps into a broader shift in motorcycle aesthetics. Nardo Grey, named after Italy’s Nardo Ring test track and popularised through the Audi R8, has moved from premium automotive culture into motorcycle design, with Indian riders increasingly showing an appetite for cleaner and more restrained finishes over elaborate graphics.

STUDDS is taking the colour across different riding formats and price points, from open-face helmets aimed at city commuters to options designed for longer-distance riders.

Sidhartha Bhushan Khurana, managing director, STUDDS Accessories, said the armed forces’ “strength, discipline and silent resilience” inspired the campaign, adding that the Nardo Grey range was intended as a tribute to their tactical aesthetics while highlighting the company’s focus on rider safety.

The 1,947-unit production run is strictly limited, with units now available through authorised STUDDS dealers across India and expected to reach retail outlets shortly. The range will also be available through the company’s online store.

With its deliberately chosen quantity and defence-inspired visual language, STUDDS is turning a colour launch into a wider Independence Day message, one where freedom is not just something to celebrate, but something to ride towards.
