Sri Adhikari Brothers revives Suraag and Damini

MUMBAI: Old stories are getting a new screen life as Sri Adhikari Brothers Television Network revives two of its recognised television properties, Suraag and Damini, as part of its renewed push into television.

The company has brought back the crime investigation format with Suraag 2.0, while Damini is returning as Damini 2.0 on DD Sahyadri through an in-house production.

Suraag 2.0 marks the return of Sudesh Berry as Inspector Bharat, alongside Sai Ketan Rao and Jigyasa Singh. The series is directed by Ravi Adhikari.

The revival continues the core crime investigation identity of the original property while adapting its treatment for a new generation of television viewers.

The company’s renewed association with Prasar Bharati is also helping bring the Suraag property back to audiences, extending the reach of a format that was previously familiar to television viewers.

Alongside Suraag 2.0, Sri Adhikari Brothers has announced the return of Damini as Damini 2.0. The new series is being produced by Doordarshan Sahyadri’s in-house production team.

The original Damini ran for more than nine years and crossed 1,500 episodes, establishing a strong connection with Marathi television audiences.

Kaanchan Adhikkari, who wrote and directed the original series, is returning for Damini 2.0, bringing a direct creative link between the original property and its revival.

Sri Adhikari Brothers managing director Kailasnath Adhikari said the company sees the revivals as an opportunity to build on the recognition of its established properties while adapting them for contemporary viewers.

He said Damini 2.0 allows DD Sahyadri to return to a property with a strong connection to Marathi households, while Suraag 2.0 brings a familiar crime format to a new generation.

The company’s approach reflects a broader strategy of using established intellectual properties while updating their treatment, cast and storytelling for today’s audiences.

With Suraag 2.0 and Damini 2.0, Sri Adhikari Brothers is looking to turn its television archive into a foundation for a new chapter, combining recognisable characters and formats with fresh production and audience strategies.
