Souhardya Banerjee takes on director role at Flipkart after four-year stint
Banerjee moves into leadership after heading IoT devices and Flipkart Ads
BENGALURU: Flipkart has added another rung to Souhardya Banerjee’s career ladder, with the executive taking on the role of director at the e-commerce company.
Banerjee announced his new position in a LinkedIn post, saying he was starting a new role as director at Flipkart. He has been with the company for around four-and-a-half years and has held leadership roles spanning advertising monetisation and consumer electronics.
His latest elevation comes after he served as business head for IoT devices at Flipkart. In that role, he was responsible for the IoT devices category, covering products such as smartwatches, smart bands, rings, smart glasses, trackers and other wearables.
Before moving into the IoT business, Banerjee was associate director at Flipkart Ads between August 2024 and April 2025. He led monetisation for electronics and mobile brands on the platform, with a focus on some of Flipkart’s largest advertising revenue-contributing categories.
Banerjee joined Flipkart in May 2022 as senior manager II for Flipkart Ads. His remit included building and taking new mobile advertising solutions to market across formats such as display, video and search advertising, as well as influencer marketing, live commerce and sponsorships.
During his advertising stint, he worked across media planning, ad sales, campaign strategy and execution for a portfolio of more than 200 brands. His work also involved developing go-to-market strategies based on consumer insights, traffic trends, revenue goals and brand requirements.
Several campaigns handled by his team went on to win industry recognition. These included campaigns for brands such as boAt and Vega, which picked up awards at events including the ET Brand Equity Shark Awards, Indian Marketing Awards and Indian Digital Marketing Awards.
Banerjee’s journey at Flipkart has therefore covered two closely linked growth engines for the platform, advertising and consumer electronics. His move into the director role marks a further step up after taking charge of the IoT devices category.
Before joining Flipkart, Banerjee spent around six years with Whirlpool Corporation, where he held multiple sales and business leadership positions. He served as branch manager in Haryana and Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and earlier worked as an area sales manager and management trainee.
At Whirlpool, he handled sales, distribution, forecasting, market expansion and team management across different markets. He also received the company’s W Star award and was selected as the Best Young Leader from the 2016 management trainee batch.
Earlier in his career, Banerjee worked as a summer intern with Abbott, where he worked on secondary sales for Digene. He began his professional career at IBM India Pvt Ltd as an application developer, spending more than two years with the technology company.
Banerjee holds a PGDM in marketing from Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad, where he was also involved with the alumni relationship committee and worked on corporate engagement, events and mentorship initiatives.
His elevation to director adds another layer to a career that has moved from technology and sales to consumer businesses, digital advertising and now senior leadership at one of India’s largest e-commerce platforms.
