Solo Leveling: Beyond the System anime film announced, enters production
Crunchyroll and Aniplex unveil theatrical sequel continuing Sung Jinwoo’s story after Season 2
MUMBAI: The system is levelling up once again. Fans of Solo Leveling have another reason to celebrate, with Crunchyroll and Aniplex officially announcing that the theatrical feature film Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is now in production.
The upcoming film will serve as a direct continuation of the anime’s story, picking up immediately after the events of Season 2, Arise from the Shadows. Alongside the announcement, the studios unveiled the film’s official English title and a new teaser key visual, although further details, including a release date and plot specifics, remain under wraps.
The feature is being animated by A-1 Pictures, the studio behind the television adaptation, with production led by Aniplex in partnership with Crunchyroll, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA and Kakao Piccoma.
Originally created by Chugong, illustrated by DUBU of REDICE STUDIO and adapted by h-goon, Solo Leveling began as a Korean web novel before becoming one of the world’s most successful webtoon franchises. According to the producers, the series has surpassed 650 million page views on Piccoma, one of Japan’s largest digital manga and novel platforms.
Set in a world where mysterious Gates connect Earth to dangerous dimensions, the story follows Sung Jinwoo, once regarded as the weakest of all Hunters. After acquiring the unique ability to continually level up, he embarks on a journey that transforms him into humanity’s strongest defender.
The first two seasons of the anime are currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
The announcement was also accompanied by a promotional concept video shown to fans attending Anime Expo. The producers clarified that the footage serves as a celebratory promotional piece and does not include scenes from the newly announced film.
The theatrical feature marks the next major chapter for one of the biggest anime franchises of recent years. With its blend of high-octane action, fantasy world-building and Sung Jinwoo’s relentless rise in power, Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is already shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited anime films currently in production.
