SOCIAL rolls out month-long Mela Mexicana festival across outlets nationwide
Embassy of Mexico partnership brings authentic flavours, music and cultural experiences to India
NEW DELHI: This July, SOCIAL is swapping its usual neighbourhood buzz for a Mexican fiesta. The restaurant and bar chain has launched Mela Mexicana, a month-long celebration of Mexican food, drinks, music and culture that will run across all SOCIAL outlets in India from 1 to 31 July 2026.
Organised in association with the Embassy of Mexico in India, the festival transforms SOCIAL’s outlets with colourful décor inspired by Mexican street culture, papel picado, alebrijes and lucha libre, alongside themed menus, live entertainment, interactive games and community events.
The initiative aims to highlight the cultural similarities between India and Mexico, drawing on their shared love for vibrant flavours, street food, music, family-style dining and festive celebrations.
Throughout the month, guests can expect staff dressed in sombreros, resident DJs wearing lucha libre masks and a nightly celebration at 8.30 pm, when teams will move through outlets with maracas, pom-poms and complimentary celebratory shots to create a shared festive experience.
The festival menu reimagines Mexican classics through SOCIAL’s signature style. Diners can choose from dishes including Guac ‘n’ Roll Chips, Nacho Average Love Triangle, Corn Chivda Chaat, Chicken Tikka Tinga Tostada, quesadillas, empanadas, tacos, burritos, chimichangas and tortas. Desserts include Concha French Toast and The Impossible Cake, blending Mexican inspiration with flavours familiar to Indian diners.
Behind the bar, tequila takes centre stage with cocktails such as the Borracho Michelada, Batanga, Hibshi Margarita, El Tamarindo, Pineapple Jalapeño Picante and Cantarito. The menu also includes non-alcoholic options like Not a Paloma and Tamarind Ginger Smash, alongside festival-inspired shot serves.
Beyond food and drinks, Mela Mexicana has been designed as an immersive cultural programme. Highlights include Telenovela Table Read, an improv-based game inspired by dramatic soap operas, and Bingo Beats Club: Mela Mexicana Edition, SOCIAL’s take on Mexico’s iconic LoterÃa card game with music, humour and audience participation.
The programming also features salsa evenings, themed workshops and live performances. Selected outlets will host Abakorao, a Latin music band led by Colombian musician Santiago RamÃrez, performing genres including salsa, merengue, bachata, son, reggaetón and cumbia.
Explaining the idea behind the festival, Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. founder and managing director Riyaaz Amlani said, “SOCIAL has always believed that culture is not something you observe from a distance; it is something you step into, share and make your own. With Mela Mexicana, we are bringing the spirit of Mexico into the heart of India’s neighbourhoods in a way only SOCIAL can, through food, drinks, music, performance, play and community.”
He added that the festival celebrates the natural cultural connection between India and Mexico while creating an experience that feels globally inspired and distinctly SOCIAL.
The Embassy of Mexico in India described the collaboration as an opportunity to strengthen cultural and economic ties through gastronomy, music and art, calling the festival “a cultural dialogue uniting our people through a shared love for community, art and food.”
Commenting on the culinary approach, Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. group executive chef Shamsul Wahid said Mexican and Indian cuisines share a common spirit built around bold flavours and communal dining. Chef Ashish Sharma Diaz Del Castillo added that the menu blends classic Mexican formats with Indian influences such as tikka, seekh, chivda and gajar to create dishes that are both familiar and distinctive.
Running throughout July, Mela Mexicana transforms every SOCIAL outlet into a celebration of Mexican culture, combining food, nightlife, music and community experiences in a festival designed to be as lively off the plate as it is on it.
