Shubham Gupta becomes chief technology officer at Porter
The engineer who joined when the logistics platform handled about 100 orders a day takes the top technology job after more than 11 years, as Porter reaches millions of customers and partners
BENGALURU: One hundred orders a day. Eleven years. Millions of customers. Shubham Gupta has stepped into the role of chief technology officer at Porter, and the arc from the first number to the last is the whole story.
Gupta joined Porter more than 11 years ago, when the company was handling about 100 orders a day. Watching it grow from there into a brand people know and trust across the country, he says, gives him immense pride and is deeply humbling. The CTO role began in October 2026.
The analysis: this is a promotion built on tenure, and it shows. Gupta’s time at Porter, which the profile puts at 11 years and 7 months in all, has taken him through every rung of the engineering ladder. He started as technical lead in April 2015, became AVP engineering in April 2016, and moved up to VP of engineering in March 2022. Few chief technology officers can say they wrote code for a company when it had a few hundred customers and now lead the technology behind millions.
The business has changed beyond recognition on his watch. Along the way, Porter expanded from LCV into 2W, outstation and house shifting, categories Gupta says the team had never imagined when it started. Today the company serves millions of customers and partners, not just in India but globally. “Porter started in India, and seeing it reach this far is something I never dreamed of,” he says.
His account of the journey is as much about people as about platforms. It has been, he says, an education like no other. He has learned how to build a technology platform that serves millions of users, but just as much, he has learned from everyone around him what it takes to build a company, and a culture, from the ground up. What humbles him most are the people who joined Porter when no one knew its name, took a leap of faith, and built the platform alongside the team.
The tone for what comes next is set by a promise. “We still make mistakes today, and we will make more along the way,” he says. “My promise is that I’ll keep learning from every one of them and lead this amazing company with that same curiosity I had 11 years ago.”
Gupta is generous with thanks. He thanked every Porter team member, past and present, who built the company alongside him, and the partners and customers who are the heart of everything it does. He also thanked Shruti Ranjan Satapathy for mentorship that shaped how he thinks and leads, Ambuj Singh for helping him become the engineer he is today, and Uttam Digga for placing his trust in him. His family, he says, stood by him through every long night and every big launch.
The path before Porter was international. From April 2013 to March 2015, Gupta was a software developer at ASCOMP AG in Zurich, Switzerland. In 2010, he did a three-month internship at KU Leuven in Belgium. The pairing of European engineering and an Indian logistics start-up is an unusual one, and it has served him well.
The pattern is clear. Gupta has grown with the company at every step, from a handful of orders to a platform serving millions, and the new title recognises that. “The journey from 100 orders a day has been incredible, and we’re only getting started,” he says. With a CTO who has built the platform from the inside, Porter has a leader who knows every layer of it. Expect the next chapter to be a busy one.
