Shirish Agarwal elevated as head of marketing, MX business at Samsung India
Seasoned marketer takes charge of Samsung India’s mobile business at a pivotal growth moment
GURUGRAM – Samsung has dialled up its marketing leadership, promoting Shirish Agarwal to head of marketing, MX business at Samsung India, in a move that puts one of India’s most experienced consumer technology marketers at the forefront of its mobile ambitions.
In his new role, Shirish Agarwal will lead marketing strategy for Samsung India’s premium mobile ecosystem, spanning smartphones, tablets and wearables. Based at the company’s Gurugram headquarters, he will be tasked with strengthening brand equity, sharpening competitive positioning, and driving major product launches in one of the world’s most fiercely contested smartphone markets.
The elevation marks another milestone in Shirish Agarwal’s second innings with Samsung India. Since rejoining the company in August 2023 as director marketing, he has steadily climbed the ranks, underlining the company’s confidence in his leadership and long-term strategic vision.
His return to Samsung came after a successful four-year run at Panasonic India, where as head of marketing communication and brand, he helped shape the company’s brand voice and consumer outreach during a crucial period of market transformation.
But Samsung is hardly unfamiliar territory for Agarwal. Before his Panasonic chapter, he spent a decade at Samsung India as deputy general manager marketing, building deep institutional knowledge and helping drive the brand’s rapid rise in India’s electronics sector.
His wider career journey includes key roles at HP, where he worked in imaging and printing marketing, as well as at Times Internet and Cyber Media, giving him a rare blend of technology, product and media expertise.
Academically, Agarwal combines global and local credentials, holding an MBA in marketing from Sungkyunkwan University under the Samsung Global Scholarship Program, alongside an MBA in advertising and communication from EMPI Business School.
His appointment comes at a strategically important time for Samsung India, as the company intensifies its push in India’s premium smartphone and connected devices market, where innovation alone is no longer enough and brand storytelling increasingly shapes consumer choice.
For Samsung, this is more than a promotion. It is a familiar face being handed a bigger phone and an even bigger brief.
