MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment has appointed media and advertising veteran Avdhesh Kumar as its international content lead, strengthening the company’s global content syndication business as it looks to expand its overseas distribution network and international partnerships.

Kumar announced the move on LinkedIn, saying he will lead Shemaroo’s international content syndication strategy, with a focus on expanding the company’s global B2B footprint and building new distribution opportunities outside India.

In his new role, Kumar will oversee international content syndication across overseas markets, managing both India-to-international and international-to-international content distribution across multiple platforms and mediums. His responsibilities also include international theatrical releases, as well as the production and acquisition of original international content.

He said the role would focus on scaling Shemaroo’s international syndication strategy, strengthening partnerships with publishers and distributors, and driving growth through global content networks.

“I have taken a new position as International Content Lead for Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd. In this role I will be focusing on scaling our international content syndication strategies and expand our global B2B footprint,” Kumar wrote in his announcement, while thanking the company’s leadership team, including Nishith Varshneya, Shiza Ansari Khan and Arghya Chakravarty, for their support.

Kumar joins Shemaroo after serving as national sales head for connected TV (CTV) and YouTube digital revenue monetisation at India TV, where he spent nearly two years leading revenue growth across digital video platforms.

Before that, he was associate director at Inshorts and Public App, where he helped build the advertising sales function for Public App, established pricing models across advertising formats including CPM, CPCV and CPC, and worked on strategic partnerships with agencies and brands.

Earlier in his career, Kumar spent more than eight years at Disney Star, holding leadership positions including cluster sales head and regional sales manager. During his tenure, he led advertising sales across several television channels, including Star Plus, Star Bharat, Star Jalsha and Jalsha Movies, managing revenue growth, client partnerships and long-term commercial deals.

He also had a brief stint as deputy general manager for ad sales at TV Today Network, overseeing revenue operations across western and southern India.

Kumar brings more than two decades of experience spanning television, OTT, digital platforms, connected TV, news, print, radio and advertising sales.

His appointment comes as Indian media companies increasingly look beyond domestic markets to monetise content libraries through international licensing, syndication, co-productions and digital distribution. With growing demand for Indian films, television programming and regional content across global streaming services and diaspora audiences, Shemaroo is expected to further strengthen its overseas content business under Kumar’s leadership.
