Shefali Shah turns author with debut book The Audacity Of Being
Actor recalls her school struggles as she launches her first book in 2026
MUMBAI: From red marks to red-letter ambitions, Shefali Shah has clearly come a long way. The actor has now swapped scripts for pages with the launch of her debut book, The Audacity Of Being, a leap she says she would never have imagined making.
Reflecting on her school days, Shah recalled regularly scoring “zero” in dictation, with her essays returning covered in red corrections. Punctuation, she joked, was once little more than an enthusiastic use of ellipses, while capital letters were apparently not compulsory in every sentence.
Yet in 2026, the actor has gone from scribbling thoughts in diaries, on tickets and even alongside receipts to publishing an actual book.
Shah said she initially believed books were written only by “important people” with something equally important to say. She did not consider herself a literary genius, but social media gradually changed her relationship with writing.
What began as personal musings became a two-way conversation when followers started responding to her posts, encouraging her to write more. That interaction eventually gave her the confidence to turn those thoughts into a book.
Shah has described The Audacity Of Being as an honest account rather than a conventional memoir. She acknowledges that her life may not necessarily warrant one, but said the book tells a story that only she can claim ownership of.
She also admitted to having the ambitions that come with any new author, including hoping the book becomes a number one bestseller. But for Shah, success ultimately lies in whether even one reader finds something in its pages that feels true to them.
The actor said her expression, whether on screen or on paper, becomes complete when audiences make it their own. With the book now published, she has effectively handed that next chapter to her readers.
Meanwhile, Shah remains active on screen. She was last seen in Delhi Crime Season 3, returning as the determined DIG Vartika Chaturvedi alongside Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Huma Qureshi, Sayani Gupta, Mita Vashisht, Anshumaan Pushkar and Kelly Dorji.
