MUMBAI: Saving energy has taken on a new spark in India as Schneider Electric reports that more than 250,000 citizens have pledged support for its “One Unit Mission”, a growing people-led sustainability drive under its Green Yodha initiative.

The campaign encourages households to save at least one unit of electricity every day through simple behavioural changes, from switching off unused devices to reducing standby power consumption. The initiative is designed to turn everyday habits into measurable environmental impact at scale.

Explaining the broader purpose of the movement, Schneider Electric’s Deepak Sharma said the energy transition must go beyond generation and focus equally on efficient consumption.

“The cleanest, most sustainable unit of energy is the one we don’t waste. If everyone saves even one unit of electricity a day, the collective impact will be huge. Through the ‘One Unit Mission’, we hope to inspire simple everyday actions that can together create a larger movement towards sustainable living,” said Schneider Electric’s md & ceo Deepak Sharma.

The initiative, part of the wider Green Yodha programme, is focused on making sustainability accessible and actionable for households across India. It promotes energy-efficient technologies, smarter power management and increased awareness of consumption patterns.

Schneider Electric’s Rajat Abbi said the campaign was designed to simplify sustainability for everyday users.

“The ‘One Unit Mission’ was created with a simple belief that sustainability should feel achievable. Through this campaign, we are encouraging citizens to take small but meaningful steps towards smarter energy use in their daily lives,” said Schneider Electric’s vice president marketing Rajat Abbi.

The initiative has gained momentum within just a few months of its launch, with participation expected to scale further through community-led programmes, residential welfare association activations and digital engagement drives. Organisers say the long-term vision is to build a nationwide behavioural shift where energy saving becomes a daily habit rather than an occasional effort.

As India’s energy demand continues to grow, the One Unit Mission is positioning small actions as a collective force for impact, turning everyday households into active contributors in the country’s sustainability journey.
