Sarvam AI names Sashikumar Sreedharan president and chief business officer
Former Google Cloud India managing director joins to scale enterprise operations and the company’s sovereign AI platform
From the world’s biggest cloud platforms to an Indian AI upstart with $234 million fresh in the bank. Sarvam AI has appointed Sashikumar Sreedharan, former managing director of Google Cloud India, as president and chief business officer (CBO), strengthening its business leadership as it expands its enterprise AI operations.
Sreedharan’s appointment adds senior cloud and enterprise technology experience to Sarvam AI’s leadership at a time when the company is scaling its commercial operations around its full-stack sovereign AI platform. His mandate covers the company’s business leadership as Sarvam continues to develop AI models, infrastructure and applications for enterprises, developers and government organisations.
Sreedharan joins after more than a year as managing director of Google Cloud India. According to his professional profile, he held that role from Jul 2025 to the present, following a stint as chief operating officer, Google Cloud APAC, from Sep 2023 to Jul 2025. Before Google, he was managing director at Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd, where he served from Feb 2018 to Sep 2023 and led the enterprise commercial business in India.
The move brings a leadership profile spanning cloud, enterprise technology and commercial operations to Sarvam AI, which is building products across areas including voice agents, speech-to-text, translation, document digitisation and enterprise applications.
The appointment follows a significant funding milestone. In Jun 2026, Sarvam AI announced the first close of its $300 million Series B round, raising $234 million at a post-money valuation of $1.5 billion. HCLTech was the lead strategic investor, with existing investors including Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners continuing to back the company.
The funding has come as Sarvam expands its focus beyond AI model development towards a broader technology stack covering infrastructure and applications. Its stated focus is on building AI systems suited to Indian languages and use cases, while enabling organisations to deploy AI with greater control over their data and infrastructure. The appointment therefore comes against the backdrop of a transition from building foundational AI capabilities to expanding their adoption across commercial and institutional use cases.
Sarvam AI was founded in 2023 by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar. The company has positioned itself around building sovereign AI infrastructure and applications for India, with technology spanning language, speech and enterprise applications. Its platform targets enterprises, developers and government organisations, with applications covering financial services, customer experience, automation and digital services.
The logic of the hire is plain. Building a clever model is one race, and selling it to banks, businesses and ministries is another. Sreedharan has spent years on the second, first leading Microsoft’s enterprise commercial business in India and then running Google Cloud’s India operation. His move also marks a shift from one of the largest global cloud platforms to an Indian AI company in the emerging sovereign AI segment, with his previous roles in enterprise technology and commercial leadership providing continuity with the enterprise-facing direction of the new job.
The timing helps. Indian technology companies are increasingly building AI capabilities around local language requirements, data control and domestic infrastructure, and Sarvam sits squarely in that current. With fresh capital, a $1.5 billion valuation and a seasoned commercial leader, the next phase is centred not only on developing AI technology but on expanding its enterprise and institutional footprint. On paper, the pieces are falling neatly into place.
