MUMBAI: Rubina Dilaik is stepping into a new role, both on and off screen. The actor, who recently embraced motherhood, is set to make her reality hosting debut with The Ward, a new nonfiction series that takes a closer look at the emotional and social realities of pregnancy and motherhood.

Produced by Moving Image Studios, the show will premiere on 15 May on The Little Adda Company’s YouTube channel.

Unlike traditional reality formats packed with drama and competition, The Ward leans into empathy, vulnerability and honest conversations. The series brings together 10 pregnant women under one roof for 10 days, documenting their experiences as they prepare to enter a new chapter in life.

Set inside a specially designed maternity ward environment, the show captures everything from emotional highs and anxieties to discussions around gender expectations, careers, relationships and changing family dynamics. The participants, who come from different backgrounds, gradually form bonds while navigating the uncertainties and excitement of impending motherhood.

The format also extends beyond the mothers-to-be. Their partners and families become active participants in the journey, with the show exploring how pregnancy reshapes relationships and emotional understanding within households.

At the centre of the series is Rubina Dilaik, who serves not just as host but also as a reassuring guide. Drawing from her own recent experiences as a new mother, she engages in conversations with participants and shares moments of reflection that add a personal layer to the show.

Speaking about the project, Rubina Dilaik said motherhood had been “the most transformative and emotional journey” of her life and described the experience as an “emotional rebirth”.

She added that The Ward resonated deeply with her because it reflects many of the feelings women often struggle to express openly, calling the show an emotional rollercoaster that mirrors real-life experiences of pregnancy and parenthood.

The show has been created by Anirban Bhattacharjee and directed by Tushar Joshi, with the makers aiming to spark more open and relatable conversations around motherhood through an immersive storytelling format.

With reality television increasingly moving towards more personal and emotionally grounded narratives, The Ward hopes to carve out a space where motherhood is shown not as perfection, but as a deeply human journey filled with questions, change and connection.
