Queen classic tops Sony Ericsson walkman phones global poll

MUMBAI: With more than 700,000 people
voting worldwide rock anthem We are the Champions by Queen was crowned number one in the first global search for the world’s top song.

The poll was a marketing stunt conducted by Sony Ericsson to celebrate the launch its new Walkman phone.
 
 

The initiative 100 global poll identified the top 100 songs of all time. This created a worldwide soundtrack to coincide with the launch of Sony Ericsson’s new family of Walkman phones.

The current princess of pop music, Britney Spears’ hit Toxic clinched the second position. The classic disco track Billie Jean by Michael Jackson came in third.
In the US voters ranked Shakira’s La Tortura and No
as numbers one and two respectively, with They don’t care about us by Michael Jackson at number three. The legendary Irish rock band U2’s song One features in the top 10 along with Dire Straits’ Sultans of Swing.
 
 

The company states that its poll was conducted in 66 different countries and translated into 20 languages. The global music survey illustrates how music is a universal passion, with the numerous musical styles and tastes contributing to every person’s own soundtrack to their life. The top ten global artistes list included Queen, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson
The Eagles, Nirvana and Dire Straits.

Sony Ericsson VP and marketing head Dee Dutta says, “Queen’s We are the Champions is a fantastic song to have made number one in the Walkman phones 100. An anthem worldwide, both in music and sporting arenas, it conveys the passion music brings to everyone’s life as well as proving a classic rock song is truly timeless. The Walkman Phones 100 gave us a fantastic platform to launch the first Walkman phone and the opportunity to communicate directly with hundreds of thousands of music fans around the world.”

In August 2005, the Sony Ericsson W800 Walkman phone began shipping in the US through Sony Style Stores and SonyEricsson.com. Samsung India elevates Aditya Babbar to lead mobile business

Exec takes charge of MX sales and marketing after Raju Pullan’s exit

NEW DELHI: Samsung India has elevated Aditya Babbar to lead its mobile phone business, following the exit of Raju Antony Pullan.

Babbar, who previously served as vice president within the mobile division, has been appointed head of sales and marketing for the MX (mobile experience) business, effective May 1. In his new role, he will oversee the company’s sales and marketing operations for smartphones and related categories in India, reporting to the executive vice president of the MX business.

A long-time Samsung executive, Babbar brings over a decade of experience within the organisation, having held multiple leadership roles across product, marketing and category management. Most recently, he led product marketing and e-commerce for the mobile division, following earlier stints as head of product and marketing and senior director roles.

His career within Samsung Electronics and its India operations has also included responsibilities for flagship devices, tablets and wearables, giving him a broad view of the company’s premium and mass-market portfolio.

Babbar succeeds Pullan, who stepped down from the role, marking a leadership transition at a time when India remains a key battleground for global smartphone makers.

The appointment signals continuity within Samsung’s leadership bench, with an internal candidate stepping up to steer one of its most critical business units in a highly competitive market.
