Pocket FM launches Sherpa AI platform for long form fiction creators
Platform combines AI agents for planning, writing and story memory across hundreds of episodes
MUMBAI: Writing a story is one thing; keeping its universe from falling apart hundreds of episodes later is another. Pocket FM is taking a crack at the latter with Sherpa, an AI-powered fiction writing platform designed to help creators build and sustain long-running stories.
The platform brings together multiple specialised AI models and agents covering story ideation, planning, research, writing, evaluation and long-term narrative memory. Pocket FM calls the underlying approach “Narrative Intelligence”, with the system designed to treat a story as one connected world rather than a string of standalone episodes.
Sherpa’s Ideation Agent develops story concepts, while the Planning Agent structures the narrative and sequences. The Research Agent adds factual and contextual information, with the prose agent turning the building blocks into scenes and episodes.
A Feedback Agent then evaluates the developing story and suggests revisions, while the Narrative World Model maintains the story’s memory as it expands.
That memory is particularly important for fiction designed to run into the hundreds of episodes. Pocket FM said an event from 50 or even 100 episodes earlier can influence what happens later, while characters need to remember what they know and unresolved conflicts must remain consistent.
“We believe the next breakthrough in generative AI for entertainment isn’t simply going to come from models that can write better sentences. It will come from systems that understand stories,” said Prateek Dixit, Co-Founder of Pocket FM.
Dixit said Sherpa is designed to understand the fictional world a creator is building, reason about where the narrative could go and retain that understanding as the story develops, while leaving the creator in control of the creative vision.
Pocket FM is bringing Sherpa to the market with a sizeable content and engagement data pool behind it. The company said it has more than 770,000 titles and 550,000 creators, alongside more than 5.5 billion hours of playtime.
It also said it has minute-by-minute engagement and retention data and more than 1.4 million hours of text and voice content spread across millions of story arcs. Pocket FM said these signals are used to improve its models and evaluation systems as more stories are created and consumed.
“Sherpa by Pocket FM is powered by our custom proprietary models, which feed off our rich data flywheel and continuously improve as more content is created and consumed,” said Vasu Sharma, Head of AI at Pocket FM.
The scale of Pocket FM’s content operation has also changed considerably. The company said its annualised content production has grown 75-fold to more than 2.5 million hours, while the number of blockbuster titles has increased 10-fold.
The pitch is that AI can give an individual creator access to capabilities that once required a much larger production operation, while still leaving the author in the driving seat.
Early users include author Ajit Kumar, whose story Brahmyodha: The Destroyer had clocked 275.2 million plays on Pocket FM as of August 2026.
Kumar said Sherpa can help writers navigate the familiar hurdles between an initial idea and a finished story, including false starts, lost ideas and periods when writing stalls. He stressed that the platform does not replace the writer but helps keep the creative process moving.
For Pocket FM, the bigger experiment is therefore not simply whether AI can write faster. It is whether AI can remember better and help creators keep an entire fictional universe on track long after the first episode has left the page.
