NEW DELHI: ORGAN India, an initiative of the Parashar Foundation, has been appointed as the team managers and country representatives for the Indian contingent participating in the World Transplant Games 2027, marking the third consecutive edition in which the organisation will lead Team India at the global sporting event for transplant recipients.

The appointment has been made by the World Transplant Games Federation for the Games, which are scheduled to be held in Leuven, Belgium, in 2027.

The World Transplant Games bring together transplant recipients from around the world to celebrate the gift of life through sport while highlighting the success of organ transplantation and the importance of organ donation. The event serves as a global platform for athletes to demonstrate that life after transplantation can be active, healthy and competitive.

Having successfully managed India’s participation in the 2023 and 2025 editions, ORGAN India will once again oversee athlete selection, training support, logistics, fundraising and the overall participation of the Indian contingent.

The organisation will work closely with transplant recipients, donor families, transplant professionals, hospitals and supporters across the country to identify and prepare athletes who embody the spirit of the Games.

India’s participation has grown steadily under ORGAN India’s stewardship. At the 2023 World Transplant Games in Perth, Australia, Team India fielded 32 athletes and returned with 35 medals. The momentum continued at the 2025 Games in Dresden, Germany, where a contingent of 57 athletes secured 63 medals, delivering India’s strongest-ever performance at the event.

Building on this success, ORGAN India is now preparing to take a contingent of nearly 80 members to Leuven in 2027, making it the country’s largest representation at the World Transplant Games to date.

Parashar Foundation chairperson and ORGAN India founder, Anika Parashar, said the appointment reflects the organisation’s continued commitment to promoting organ donation through sport.

“Being appointed as the team managers for the third consecutive World Transplant Games is both an honour and a responsibility. Every edition gives us an opportunity to show the country what organ donation and transplantation can make possible. Through Team India, we hope to celebrate the achievements of transplant recipients, inspire more conversations around organ donation and demonstrate that life after transplant can be active, competitive and full of possibility,” she said.

India’s transplant athletes have continued to serve as ambassadors for organ donation, proving that transplantation not only offers a second chance at life but also enables recipients to pursue sporting excellence and represent the country on the global stage.

ORGAN India chief executive officer and India’s member representative at the World Transplant Games Federation, Sunayana Singh, said preparations for Leuven are already underway.

“We have seen Team India grow stronger, more competitive and more confident with every edition. As preparations for Leuven begin, our focus will be on identifying athletes from across India, giving them the right training and support, and building a team that is prepared to compete at the highest level. We are already seeing considerable interest from transplant recipients and expect 2027 to be our largest contingent yet,” she said.

As preparations gather pace, ORGAN India plans to invite transplant recipients interested in representing India, along with donor families, corporate partners and institutions, to join Team India’s journey to Leuven. The organisation says it will continue using the Games as a platform to strengthen awareness around organ donation while showcasing the life-changing impact of transplantation.
