Noel Tata to retire as Titan vice-chairman in November under Tata Group policy
Titan pays tribute to longtime board member as succession plan follows group retirement norms
Mumbai: One of the Tata Group’s longest-serving boardroom leaders is preparing to pass the baton. Noel N. Tata will retire as vice-chairman of Titan Company Limited in November 2026 after reaching the Tata Group’s retirement age for non-executive directors.
The announcement was made during Titan’s 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), where chairman S. Vijayakumar said the meeting would be Tata’s last as the company’s vice-chairman.
Paying tribute to Tata’s more than 23-year association with the company, Vijayakumar said his “visionary leadership, strategic guidance and unwavering commitment to Tata values” had played a key role in Titan’s “remarkable growth and transformation.”
On behalf of the board, management and shareholders, Vijayakumar thanked Tata for his “invaluable contributions in shaping the Company into a leading player across multiple industry categories.”
Addressing shareholders, Tata reflected on Titan’s journey over the past two decades, saying the company had evolved into a “multi-category, multi-brand company.” He expressed confidence in Titan’s future and wished the company success in its next phase of growth.
The retirement follows the Tata Group’s long-standing governance policy under which executives retire from operational roles at 65 and step down from non-executive board positions at the age of 70. Tata turns 70 in November this year.
Titan also informed shareholders that Tata, who serves as a non-executive director, would retire by rotation under Section 152(6) of the Companies Act, 2013. Being eligible, he sought reappointment at the AGM, a procedural requirement under the Act.
Beyond Titan, Tata currently serves as chairman of Tata Investment Corporation, Tata International, Trent Limited and Voltas Limited. He is also a non-executive director at Tata Steel.
Over the past decade, Tata has led several key businesses within the conglomerate. He became chairman of Trent in 2014, overseeing rapid expansion driven by the growth of Westside and Zudio, and took over as chairman of Voltas in 2017 following Ishaat Hussain’s retirement.
In October 2024, Tata was appointed chairman of Tata Trusts, succeeding Ratan Tata at the helm of the philanthropic body that holds a majority stake in Tata Sons. Unlike Tata Group operating companies, Tata Trusts does not prescribe a retirement age for its chairman or trustees.
With his retirement from Titan due later this year, Tata’s departure marks another milestone in the Tata Group’s ongoing leadership transition, even as he continues to play a central role at Tata Trusts.
