MUMBAI: In a move that adds fresh muscle to its wealth ambitions, Nexedge Capital has appointed Apurva Sahijwani, former managing director and chief executive officer of Avendus Wealth Management, as co-founder, as the independent wealth management firm sharpens its focus on India’s expanding affluent market.

Sahijwani brings more than 28 years of experience in private banking and wealth management, having built and scaled businesses across some of India’s leading financial institutions. His appointment strengthens Nexedge’s leadership as it seeks to expand its footprint and deepen its offering for ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs), families and corporates.

Sahijwani served as managing director and CEO of Avendus Wealth Management from May 2024 to September 2026. During his tenure, he led a rebuilding exercise that helped develop the business into one of the country’s fastest-growing private wealth franchises.

Before Avendus, he was head of private banking at Axis Bank, where he played a key role in launching and scaling Burgundy Private, the bank’s private wealth management business. He began his career at Kotak Securities and subsequently held senior positions at ICICI Bank, HSBC, Citibank and Kotak Wealth Management.

The appointment brings to Nexedge a seasoned executive with experience in building wealth businesses within large financial institutions, at a time when affluent Indian families are seeking more specialised advice on investments, succession and the preservation of family wealth.

Nexedge Capital founder and CEO Anirudha Taparia said Sahijwani was among the most accomplished builders in Indian private banking, with a track record of launching, scaling and transforming wealth businesses.

“Bringing him on board as co-founder reflects the scale of our ambition,” Taparia said, adding that the firm was building an independent wealth platform designed to lead the next decade of Indian wealth management. Sahijwani’s leadership, he said, would significantly accelerate that journey.

Sahijwani said India’s wealth management industry was at an inflection point, with a new generation of entrepreneurs, business owners and wealthy families seeking greater independence, sophisticated solutions and advisers aligned with their long-term interests.

Having spent nearly three decades building private banking businesses within large institutions, he believes the next phase of growth will favour independent platforms that combine institutional-grade expertise with entrepreneurial speed.

“That is exactly what we are building at Nexedge,” Sahijwani said.

Nexedge has established a presence in 11 Indian cities and employs more than 240 professionals, including 95 senior bankers. It advises over 1,300 ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, with assets under management exceeding $3 billion and assets under advisory topping $5 billion.

The firm positions itself as a client-centric wealth management and multi-family office platform, offering services that extend beyond conventional investment management. Its advisory portfolio spans portfolio management, estate and succession planning, business expansion and global mobility, tailored to clients’ long-term financial goals and changing family and business structures.

The focus is on helping clients manage not only their wealth but also its continuity across generations, including the succession of family businesses and legacies.

Sahijwani’s arrival gives Nexedge a senior banker with experience across established private wealth franchises as it looks to turn its growing scale into a stronger competitive position. In a market where fortunes are multiplying and financial needs are becoming more complex, the firm is betting that independence, expertise and long-term alignment will be its winning combination.
