Motorola launches Edge 70 Max with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 at Rs 49,999
Flagship packs 7,100mAh battery, Quad HD+ display and AI features from July 20
MUMBAI: Looks like Motorola has decided that flagship phones should stop making users choose between power, performance and AI. The company has unveiled the Motorola Edge 70 Max, a premium smartphone that combines Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor, a massive 7,100mAh battery, AI-powered features and Motorola’s new cross-device AI platform, Qira, as it intensifies competition in India’s premium smartphone market.
Priced from an effective Rs 49,999, the Edge 70 Max will go on sale from July 20 through Flipkart, Motorola.in and leading retail stores across India.
At the heart of the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which Motorola says delivers up to 36 per cent better CPU performance, 11 per cent faster graphics and a 46 per cent more powerful AI engine than its predecessor. The chipset is paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage, while a 5,500 sq mm vapour chamber with liquid metal thermal gel is designed to keep temperatures under control during intensive workloads.
Motorola is also betting heavily on display quality. The smartphone features what it describes as the segment’s only Quad HD+ (2K) Extreme AMOLED display, offering 77 per cent more pixels than Full HD screens, a 144Hz refresh rate, up to 7,000 nits peak brightness, 10-bit colour depth and support for more than one billion colours. Dolby Atmos-powered stereo speakers, Hi-Res Audio and Snapdragon Sound further round out the entertainment experience.
Battery life is another headline feature. The Edge 70 Max packs Motorola’s largest-ever 7,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, which the company claims can deliver up to 58 hours of usage on a single charge. It supports 90W TurboPower wired charging and 25W Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, positioning it among the fastest-charging smartphones in its class.
On the camera front, the device houses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation, accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide and macro lens and a 32MP front camera capable of recording 4K selfie videos. AI-powered photography features include Photo Enhancement Engine, Signature Style, Dynamic Bokeh, Horizon Lock and Frame Match, while Pantone validation aims to deliver more accurate colours and skin tones.
The launch also marks the debut of Motorola Qira, the company’s new AI ecosystem designed to connect Motorola smartphones with Lenovo PCs and tablets. Powered by a shared AI knowledge base, Qira enables features such as Chat Mode, Creator Zone, Next Move, Pay Attention and Catch Me Up, allowing users to generate content, summarise meetings and continue tasks seamlessly across multiple devices. The feature will initially be available on the 12GB variant, with support for the 8GB model arriving through a future update.
Running Android 16 with Hello UX, the smartphone also includes Smart Connect for cross-device integration, Moto Unplugged for digital wellbeing and ThinkShield security with Moto Secure for enhanced privacy and enterprise-grade protection.
The Edge 70 Max will be available in 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB configurations in Pantone Aqua Gray, Pantone Dark Shadow and Pantone Ice Melt. The launch prices are Rs 54,999 and Rs 59,999, respectively, with launch offers including up to Rs 5,000 bank discount or exchange bonus bringing the effective starting price down to Rs 49,999. Buyers will also receive a Jio offer that includes Google Gemini Pro, 5,000GB of Jio AI Cloud Storage for 18 months, along with access to Jio’s OTT bundle on eligible plans.
With flagship hardware, AI-first software and a growing focus on connected experiences, Motorola is signalling that its ambitions extend beyond smartphones, positioning the Edge 70 Max as the centrepiece of a broader AI-powered device ecosystem.
