MUMBAI: Looks like MobiKwik’s balance sheet has finally found its wallet. After ending the previous financial year in the red, the fintech company returned to profitability in the opening quarter of FY27, helped by lower operating costs and improved efficiencies across its payments and lending businesses.

One MobiKwik Systems reported revenue from operations of Rs 281.5 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, a 3.7 per cent increase from Rs 271.4 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Including other income, total income stood at Rs 289.2 crore, compared with Rs 281.6 crore a year earlier.

The company reported a net profit of Rs 7.6 crore, reversing a net loss of Rs 41.9 crore in the year-ago period. It also marked a significant turnaround from the Rs 62.1 crore loss recorded for the full FY26 financial year.

Operating performance strengthened during the quarter, with EBITDA improving to Rs 15.8 crore, compared with a negative Rs 31.2 crore in the same quarter last year. Profit before tax stood at Rs 7.6 crore, against a loss of Rs 41.9 crore in the corresponding period.

The improvement came despite a rise in employee costs. Employee benefit expenses increased to Rs 53.4 crore from Rs 42 crore a year earlier. However, lower payment processing charges, which declined to Rs 117.4 crore from Rs 142.8 crore, and a sharp reduction in lending operational expenses to Rs 1.8 crore from Rs 29.2 crore helped offset the higher workforce costs.

The company continued investing in technology and product development. As of June 30, 2026, it had utilised Rs 348.4 crore from its IPO proceeds, with Rs 182.2 crore remaining unutilised.

Following a revision in capital allocation, MobiKwik has earmarked Rs 60.9 crore to invest in its wholly owned subsidiary MobiKwik Distribution Services Private Limited, which will operate as a Lending Service Provider (LSP).

The company has also allocated Rs 71 crore towards expanding its payment services business, Rs 25.3 crore for research and development in data, machine learning and artificial intelligence, Rs 25 crore for payment devices and Rs 3.9 crore for general corporate purposes.

The latest results suggest MobiKwik’s efforts to sharpen operational efficiency while continuing to invest in AI-led innovation are beginning to bear fruit. With payment costs falling, lending operations becoming leaner and profitability returning, the fintech company appears to have started FY27 on a firmer financial footing.
