Meta unveils Muse Charm standalone device for AI voice interactions

MUMBAI: Muse is stepping out of the screen and into the pocket, as Meta gives its AI assistant a new physical form with Muse Charm. Meta unveiled Muse Charm at its annual Connect 2026 event, presenting the compact standalone device as a way for users to interact with its Muse artificial intelligence assistant through real-time voice without relying on a smartphone.

The gadget was showcased by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg towards the end of the keynote, alongside the company’s new AI glasses and virtual reality hardware.

Muse Charm is a small portable device with a display featuring an animated avatar representing Muse. The idea is straightforward: talk to the AI and get things done, without having to pull out a phone, unlock it or open an app.

The device can be activated using a fingerprint sensor, allowing users to start a conversation quickly. It also features a front-facing camera, a fingerprint sensor positioned on the top-right corner and an action button on the left side.

Meta is pitching the device as an alternative way to access Muse when users are not wearing its smart glasses. Its compact design means it can be carried in a pocket or attached to a keychain, potentially making the AI assistant available at a moment’s notice.

However, the Charm is still under development. Meta has not disclosed its price or complete technical specifications, leaving key details about the device unanswered.

The hardware is also designed to broaden access to Muse beyond Meta’s smart-glasses ecosystem. Users who do not own or wear the company’s AI glasses could use the standalone device to interact with the assistant.

Behind the small gadget sits a more ambitious AI proposition. Muse is designed not merely to answer questions but to act on a user’s behalf.

Meta has developed a dedicated virtual machine called Muse Secure VM for the AI agent, which can handle tasks such as sending emails, booking tickets and completing forms. The company has also said Muse can retain details from previous conversations and use that context when carrying out tasks later.

That makes Muse Charm less about having another screen in the pocket and more about having an AI interface that can act as a digital go-between.

Zuckerberg said the device is expected to be ready for the holiday season in December. Meta said it would provide more information about Muse Charm later this year, with pricing and a fuller set of specifications still to be announced.
