Meesho to enable over 10 lakh seasonal jobs ahead of festive shopping rush

NEW DELHI: The festive shopping rush is set to bring a hiring rush with it. E-commerce marketplace Meesho expects to enable more than 10 lakh seasonal job opportunities across its seller and logistics ecosystem during the upcoming festive season.

The projected employment generation includes around 6.5 lakh jobs across Meesho’s seller network and approximately 3.75 lakh roles through its logistics operations.

The company said the seasonal hiring will help businesses across its ecosystem prepare for the expected surge in orders during the festive period, when e-commerce platforms typically see a significant share of their annual sales.

“Nearly 1.3 lakh sellers are expected to hire seasonal workers across packaging, manufacturing, production, warehousing and inventory management,” Meesho said in a statement.

The hiring is expected to support sellers as they build inventory, introduce new products and expand their festive collections.

Meesho’s logistics platform Valmo, along with its third-party logistics partners, will increase capacity to handle the expected rise in shipments.

Seasonal roles in the logistics ecosystem will cover delivery, sortation, delivery centre operations and supervisory functions.

The company said the festive season continues to generate economic opportunities across its wider ecosystem, allowing sellers and logistics partners to expand their businesses while creating employment across India.

The hiring plans come as major e-commerce companies prepare for their annual festive sales, traditionally one of the busiest periods for online retail.

For Meesho’s sellers, the festive rush means more orders to fulfil. For workers, it could mean 10 lakh more reasons to look forward to the shopping season.
