Maruti Suzuki sales rise 21 per cent to 2.19 lakh units in August
Domestic sales drive growth as utility vehicles lead and five-month sales cross 1.14 million
MUMBAI: Maruti has put its sales into top gear. Maruti Suzuki India reported total sales of 219,220 units in August 2026, up 21.3 per cent from 180,683 units sold in August 2025, as strong domestic demand more than offset softer exports and lower OEM sales.
The August tally comprised 180,078 domestic units, 5,298 units sold to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and 33,844 exports.
The automaker also crossed the 1 million-unit mark within the first five months of FY2026-27, with total sales during April-August reaching 1,143,365 units, compared with 889,070 units in the corresponding period last year.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales, excluding light commercial vehicles and OEM sales, climbed to 176,971 units in August from 131,278 units a year earlier.
Utility vehicles remained the biggest growth engine, with sales rising to 79,045 units from 54,043 units in August 2025. The segment includes Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6.
Passenger cars across the Mini and Compact + Mid-Size categories together recorded 85,965 units, up from 66,450 units a year earlier.
The Mini segment, comprising Alto and S-Presso, contributed 8,799 units, compared with 6,853 units in August 2025.
Meanwhile, the Compact + Mid-Size segment, which includes Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR, rose to 77,166 units from 59,597 units.
Van sales, led by Eeco, increased to 11,961 units from 10,785 units.
Including light commercial vehicles, Maruti Suzuki’s domestic sales rose to 180,078 units in August 2026 from 134,050 units in the year-ago month.
Sales to other OEMs moved in the opposite direction, falling to 5,298 units from 10,095 units.
Overall domestic sales, including passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and OEM volumes, therefore reached 185,376 units, compared with 144,145 units in August 2025.
Exports, meanwhile, slipped to 33,844 units from 36,538 units a year earlier.
The broader April-August picture remains firmly in the fast lane.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales during the first five months of FY2026-27 reached 898,402 units, compared with 662,626 units in the same period last year.
Domestic sales including light commercial vehicles rose to 915,008 units from 676,702 units, while total domestic sales including OEM volumes increased to 954,729 units from 723,815 units.
Exports for the five-month period stood at 188,636 units, up from 165,255 units in April-August 2025.
That took Maruti Suzuki’s overall sales for the first five months of FY2026-27 to 1,143,365 units, giving the country’s largest carmaker a strong start to the financial year despite the August dip in exports.
