MUMBAI: Hair fall is getting a blood test of its own. Man Matters has launched what it describes as India’s first at-home blood testing service specifically focused on men’s hair health, allowing users to book diagnostic tests through its platform, get samples collected at home and have the results reviewed by a Man Matters doctor.

The service is designed to help men identify nutritional deficiencies and metabolic markers that could be contributing to hair fall or thinning before deciding on a treatment plan.

Users can book a test through the Man Matters platform, after which a trained phlebotomist collects the sample at home through a NABL-trusted laboratory. Once the report is ready, users receive a doctor consultation to help interpret the findings and determine potential next steps.

The company said the service has been introduced after observing that many men begin treating hair loss without first investigating possible underlying factors. Man Matters currently handles nearly 5,000 consultations a day and has completed more than 6.3 lakh doctor consultations over the past year, according to the company.

The testing options include a focused screen covering Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and thyroid function. A more comprehensive panel adds markers including blood sugar, lipid profile and serum ferritin, giving users a broader view of factors that may be associated with hair fall.

Man Matters dermatologist Dr Kanishka Kaul said Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 deficiencies can contribute to hair thinning, although they are not themselves causes of genetic baldness.

“Knowing which one you’re dealing with is the difference between guessing and treating,” Kaul said.

The company said the service is intended to address a common gap in men’s hair-care journeys, where treatment begins before potential contributing factors are investigated. It is positioning the offering around a “test first, treat second” approach.

Man Matters co-founder Geet Rathi said blood testing cannot determine genetic hair loss but can help identify deficiencies that may contribute to the problem.

“A report that reads ‘normal’ does not necessarily mean that everything is optimal for hair health,” Rathi said, adding that the company wanted to make diagnosis more accessible as part of the hair-care journey.

The testing process is designed around convenience and privacy. Users can check service availability, choose a testing package and select a preferred time slot through the Man Matters platform. They receive updates via SMS and WhatsApp covering the booking, sample collection and report status.

The report is followed by a free doctor consultation, allowing users to discuss the results and understand what they may mean for their hair health.

The service is now available through Man Matters’ blood-testing platform, extending the company’s hair-care offering beyond treatment and towards diagnostics. The broader pitch is simple: before reaching for a remedy, understand what might be happening beneath the surface.
