MUMBAI: Every great partnership is worth its weight in gold and this one comes with a captain’s seal of trust. Malabar Gold & Diamonds has appointed former India cricket captain MS Dhoni as its brand ambassador, launching a long-term partnership aimed at strengthening the retailer’s positioning around its “Responsible Jeweller” philosophy.

The collaboration comes as jewellery buyers increasingly prioritise transparency, authenticity and trust alongside design and craftsmanship when making purchase decisions.

Through the partnership, Malabar Gold & Diamonds plans to reinforce its commitment to ethical business practices, responsible sourcing, quality assurance and customer-centric policies, with Dhoni’s image expected to anchor the company’s next phase of brand communication.

The retailer said its “Responsible Jeweller” platform reflects accountability across the entire jewellery value chain from sourcing and manufacturing to pricing transparency and after-sales service. The initiative is backed by a customer assurance programme that includes 100 per cent BIS-hallmarked jewellery, quality certification for natural diamonds, transparent pricing, buyback guarantees, lifetime maintenance and exchange benefits.

Explaining the choice of ambassador, the company said Dhoni’s reputation for integrity, consistency and trustworthiness mirrors the values it seeks to project. The former India skipper remains the only captain in international cricket to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies, making him one of the country’s most trusted sporting personalities.

Commenting on the announcement, M.P. Ahammad, Chairman of Malabar Group, said today’s consumers expect much more than quality products and increasingly look for confidence and transparency in every purchase.

Dhoni said the partnership resonated with his own belief that trust is built through consistency and actions, adding that the brand’s emphasis on responsibility and customer confidence aligned with his personal values.

The campaign will be one of Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ largest integrated marketing initiatives to date, spanning television, print, digital platforms, social media, radio, cinema, outdoor advertising and in-store activations.

The retailer also plans to leverage its network of more than 450 stores worldwide to amplify the campaign and strengthen its message around responsible jewellery buying.

The appointment reflects a wider trend in India’s jewellery sector, where brands are increasingly using trusted public figures to reinforce credibility rather than simply drive visibility. For Malabar Gold & Diamonds, the bet is that in a market where consumers are investing not just in ornaments but in assurance, trust may prove to be its most valuable asset.
