Mahindra launches Thar OG at Rs 10.32 lakh, deliveries to begin on 11 October
The three-door SUV gets upgraded suspension, terrain modes, new engines and safety features
MUMBAI: Mahindra & Mahindra has given its iconic Thar a fresh chapter with the launch of the Thar OG, a three-door lifestyle SUV that combines the model’s familiar rugged character with upgraded ride quality, off-road capability and everyday usability.
Priced from Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the Thar OG succeeds the three-door Thar introduced in 2020. Deliveries will begin from 11 October 2026, with the introductory pricing valid for deliveries until 30 November.
The latest iteration is built on Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform and gets a host of mechanical, design and safety upgrades aimed at making the SUV more refined without moving too far from its off-road roots.
The Thar OG features a new rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, along with DAVINCI Damping technology and Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD). Mahindra says these changes improve ride comfort, cornering stability and control.
Electric Power Steering has also been added to make low-speed manoeuvring easier, while enhanced NVH damping is aimed at creating a more refined cabin experience.
For off-road driving, the SUV gets an Electronic Locking Differential and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. Four-wheel-drive versions also receive terrain assist, while the RWD versions powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk and 2.0-litre mStallion engines get terrain assist as well.
The powertrain line-up includes the G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine producing 119 kW and 330 Nm, the D22 mHawk diesel developing 111.9 kW and 330 Nm, and the D117 CRDe diesel delivering 87.2 kW and 300 Nm.
Dr Velusamy R, president, automotive business, Mahindra & Mahindra, said the Thar OG brings advances in on-road refinement and off-road capability while retaining the model’s rugged character.
“With over 4 lakh customers, it has become one of India’s most successful lifestyle SUV brands,” Velusamy said, adding that the new platform, suspension, damping, differential and steering technologies are designed to improve ride quality, handling, stability and driving confidence.
The Thar OG retains the boxy proportions and distinctive silhouette associated with the nameplate, while receiving several exterior updates.
The changes include a new grille, circular LED headlamps, C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering function and new LED tail lamps. R19 alloy wheels give the SUV a larger stance, while redesigned front and rear bumpers add to its rugged appearance.
Inside, the SUV gets Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, a soft second-row armrest with cupholder and other equipment depending on the variant.
Two new exterior colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, join six existing options.
Pratap Bose, chief design & creative officer, auto & farm sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra, said the design approach was to preserve the Thar’s recognisable proportions while evolving the SUV for a new generation.
Safety has also received an upgrade. The Thar OG comes with six airbags, including four head-pelvis-thorax-shoulder airbags for front and rear occupants.
The SUV also gets four-wheel disc brakes, ESP 9.3 with rollover mitigation and front parking sensors. Higher variants add a rear-view camera and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Nalinikanth Gollagunta, chief executive officer, automotive division, Mahindra & Mahindra, said the Thar OG is aimed at extending the SUV’s appeal while retaining the authenticity and capability associated with the nameplate.
The introductory ex-showroom pricing starts at Rs 10.32 lakh for the AXT variant with the D117 CRDe diesel engine and RWD.
The LXT variants are priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 18 lakh depending on engine and drivetrain, while ZXT variants range from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh.
The introductory prices apply to deliveries made until 30 November 2026.
With the Thar OG, Mahindra is keeping the three-door format at the heart of the nameplate while adding technology and refinement aimed at making the lifestyle SUV more capable both on the trail and in everyday driving.
