Mahindra Auto sales rise 15 per cent to 1.15 lakh units in September
Utility vehicles grow 14 per cent as electric SUV billings cross one lakh
MUMBAI: Mahindra’s September numbers came with plenty of torque, as SUVs kept the sales engine humming. Mahindra & Mahindra reported overall auto sales of 1,14,874 vehicles, including exports, in September 2026, marking a 15 per cent year-on-year increase.
The company’s utility vehicle business remained at the centre of that growth story, with domestic sales climbing 14 per cent to 64,092 units during the month. The figure was up from 56,233 units in September 2025, giving the SUV portfolio another month of double-digit growth.
The momentum also held up across the first half of FY27. Mahindra sold 3,58,142 utility vehicles between April and September 2026, up 20 per cent from 2,97,570 units in the corresponding period last year.
Dr Velusamy R, president, Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra, said SUV sales grew 14 per cent in September, while total vehicle sales increased 15 per cent YoY. The numbers put the utility vehicle business firmly among the company’s key contributors to its domestic auto performance.
Commercial vehicles added another layer to the September growth. Mahindra’s domestic CV sales rose 14 per cent to 30,420 units compared with the year-ago period.
Within the commercial vehicle portfolio, light commercial vehicles below 2 tonnes grew 19 per cent to 4,044 units. The 2-3.5 tonne category also moved higher, with sales rising 13 per cent to 26,376 units during September.
Three-wheelers delivered an even stronger acceleration. Sales, including electric three-wheelers, jumped 26 per cent to 16,343 units in September, adding another fast-growing segment to Mahindra’s monthly performance.
The momentum becomes more pronounced when the six-month numbers are taken into account. Three-wheeler sales increased 53 per cent to 82,058 units during the first six months of FY27, highlighting the segment’s sharp expansion compared with the year-ago period.
Mahindra’s electric vehicle business also crossed a significant milestone during the month. The company said it has surpassed one lakh billings of its Electric Origin SUVs since their launch, adding another marker to its expanding electric SUV portfolio.
While domestic volumes continued to grow, exports took a different road in September. Mahindra’s exports declined 7 per cent YoY to 4,019 units, compared with 4,320 units in September 2025.
The monthly dip, however, sits against a much stronger first-half export performance. Cumulative exports during April-September FY27 stood at 30,031 units, up 48 per cent from 20,303 units in the corresponding period last year.
That contrast makes September’s numbers more interesting than the overall 15 per cent growth headline suggests. Domestic SUVs, commercial vehicles and three-wheelers continued to provide momentum, while exports softened during the month despite recording substantial growth over the first half.
The utility vehicle numbers remain particularly significant for Mahindra, with September sales up 14 per cent and the April-September tally up 20 per cent. At the same time, three-wheelers are showing an even faster trajectory, with first-half sales rising 53 per cent.
Electric SUVs are also becoming a more visible part of the company’s sales narrative, with the one lakh billing milestone adding another data point to Mahindra’s EV expansion. Together, the figures show a business growing across multiple vehicle categories rather than relying on a single sales lane.
For September, the broad picture is therefore one of continued domestic momentum, led by SUVs and supported by commercial vehicles and three-wheelers. The softer export performance is a counterpoint, but the 48 per cent rise in first-half exports keeps the international business firmly in the growth column for FY27 so far.
