Magnus Carlsen opens up on chess, Gukesh and life beyond the board

MUMBAI: Checkmate may be his speciality, but Magnus Carlsen is showing that there is plenty more to his game than the 64 squares. In a global exclusive conversation with Firstpost, the chess legend has opened up about his approach to the game, his rivals, India’s rapidly rising chess generation and the life he leads away from the board.

In his first sit-down interview with an Indian media network, Carlsen spoke at length with Firstpost Sports Editor Rupha Ramani, offering a rare look at the mindset behind his extraordinary consistency at the highest level of chess for more than a decade.
