Kristen Mascarenhas joins Starcom as group head
The former WPP Media executive, who rose from associate manager to director in under five years, begins a new chapter at Publicis Groupe in Mumbai
MUMBAI: Four titles, three employers, one very clear direction: up. Kristen Mascarenhas has moved from WPP Media to Starcom, Publicis Groupe, where she started in October 2026 as group head. The role is based in Mumbai and is on-site.
Announcing the move, Mascarenhas said she was excited to begin a new chapter in her career. She described her time at WPP Media as a rewarding journey filled with valuable learnings, meaningful experiences and great people. At Starcom, she says, she looks forward to building on that experience, working with talented teams and creating meaningful impact in the new role. She also thanked the HR team and leadership at Starcom for their support through the transition and for making her feel welcome. “Here’s to new beginnings, continued growth, and exciting opportunities ahead,” she added.
The analysis: this is a move between two of the biggest names in the business, and the career behind it is a study in steady climbing. Mascarenhas started at Merkle Sokrati in Pune, where she was associate manager from February 2022 to October 2022. She returned to the company in January 2023 as manager, business strategy, a role she held until August 2023. That strategy grounding is worth noting, because it is the kind of experience that shapes how a client services leader thinks.
In August 2023 she joined Mindshare, now part of WPP Media, as manager, The Exchange. She was promoted to director, The Exchange, in November 2024, and the profile shows her in the role for two years. Her time at Mindshare ran to three years and three months in all. Alongside it, she holds a role at WPP as associate vice president, client services, listed from August 2026. Few executives have a record that shows promotion within a single agency network and a progression from strategy to client services.
The Starcom role is the logical next step. Group head is a leadership position, and the move takes Mascarenhas into Publicis Groupe, a different holding company with its own culture and clients. That brings fresh challenges, which is precisely what she says she wanted. Her mix of business strategy, a promotion track at Mindshare and client services experience at WPP is a useful kit to carry into Starcom.
The pattern is clear. Mascarenhas has added a rung of seniority at nearly every stop, and has done so across agencies, cities and disciplines. Starcom gets a leader who has built her career on delivery and growth. Expect the new chapter to be a busy one.
