Infosys headcount dips as attrition rises despite strong Q1 growth
Workforce slips by 532 as client additions and profit continue to climb
MUMBAI: At Infosys, the numbers are telling two stories, one of growing business and another of a workforce in quiet transition. The IT services major reported a marginal decline in employee headcount for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, even as voluntary attrition edged up sequentially and the company expanded its client base while delivering double-digit growth in revenue and profit.
Infosys ended the June quarter with a total workforce of 328,062 employees, down by 532 employees from 328,594 at the end of the March quarter. On a year-on-year basis, however, the company added 4,274 employees, up from 323,788 a year earlier.
The number of software professionals fell to 310,039 from 310,887 in the previous quarter. In contrast, employees in sales and support functions increased to 18,023, compared with 17,707 in the March quarter.
Employee movement also gathered pace during the quarter. Voluntary attrition in the IT services business, measured on a last twelve months basis, rose to 13 per cent, up from 12.6 per cent in the preceding quarter. Even so, the figure remained below the 14.4 per cent reported in the corresponding quarter last year.
Infosys also reported a modest improvement in workforce diversity, with women accounting for 39.6 per cent of its employees, compared with 39.5 per cent in the previous quarter and 39.1 per cent a year earlier.
On the business front, the company continued to broaden its customer base. Active clients increased to 2,027, up from 1,965 in the March quarter and 1,861 a year ago. Gross client additions stood at 155, compared with 111 in the previous quarter and 93 in the corresponding period last year.
The company also strengthened relationships with larger customers. The number of clients contributing at least $1 million in annual revenue rose to 1,026, while 333 clients generated more than $10 million annually. Infosys also had 85 clients contributing over $50 million and 41 clients generating more than $100 million in annual revenue.
The operational update accompanied a robust financial performance. Infosys reported a 12.2 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 7,769 crore for the quarter, while revenue from operations rose 14 per cent to Rs 48,211 crore. Operating profit climbed 15.4 per cent to Rs 10,163 crore, with the company maintaining an operating margin of 21.1 per cent.
The latest numbers suggest Infosys continues to win new business and deepen client relationships, even as it navigates a more measured approach to workforce expansion amid an evolving technology and talent landscape.
