MUMBAI: Hyundai has shifted into top gear just as the festive season approaches. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) recorded its highest-ever monthly total sales of 77,916 units in September 2026, marking 10.8 per cent year-on-year growth and surpassing its previous monthly sales record set in July 2026.

The September performance was driven by growth on both sides of the sales ledger. Domestic sales rose 10.9 per cent YoY to 57,166 units, while exports increased 10.4 per cent to 20,750 units, taking overseas shipments past the 20,000-unit mark.

Domestic sales continued to account for the larger share of Hyundai India’s September volumes, but the export performance added another layer to the record month. With both markets registering double-digit growth, the company crossed its previous monthly sales peak to post its strongest September performance since inception.

The 77,916-unit total represents a 10.8 per cent increase over the year-ago period. More importantly, the new record comes only a few months after Hyundai’s previous monthly high in July 2026, indicating that the company has raised the bar for its own monthly sales performance.

Tarun Garg, managing director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said the September record reflected the company’s product portfolio across domestic and international markets. The company is now looking towards the festive season for continued customer demand.

Festive buying could provide the next test for that momentum. Hyundai expects customer interest to remain strong during the upcoming festive period, with the company also looking to its upcoming new model, the Hyundai BAYON, to add another draw for buyers.

Bookings for the BAYON are now open in India. Garg said the upcoming all-new nameplate is expected to support customer enthusiasm during the festive season, adding another potential catalyst as automakers enter one of the industry’s busiest sales periods.

The September numbers also underline the importance of exports to Hyundai India’s overall volume. The company shipped 20,750 units during the month, up 10.4 per cent YoY, meaning exports accounted for more than a quarter of its total September sales.

At home, the 57,166-unit domestic tally represented 10.9 per cent growth over September 2025. The fact that domestic and export sales both recorded double-digit increases gave Hyundai a relatively broad-based growth profile for the month rather than relying on a single market.

The record also comes against a wider period of heightened activity in India’s passenger vehicle market, with manufacturers looking to convert festive-season interest into showroom traffic and deliveries. For Hyundai, September has already delivered a new monthly benchmark before the main festive buying window gets fully underway.

With the previous record having been set in July 2026, September’s 77,916-unit tally gives Hyundai a fresh high-water mark. The next question for the automaker is whether festive demand, supported by the BAYON’s arrival and bookings, can keep the sales momentum running through the coming months.
