Hyundai India August sales rise 8.8 per cent to 65,796 units
Domestic sales hit a record 54,396 units, rising 23.6 per cent year on year
MUMBAI: Hyundai has put its foot down on the accelerator, with August sales shifting into a higher gear. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) reported total sales of 65,796 units in August 2026, up 8.8 per cent year on year, as a sharp rise in domestic demand helped offset pressure on exports.
Domestic sales stood at 54,396 units, marking a 23.6 per cent YoY increase and the highest-ever sales recorded by Hyundai India for any August. Exports contributed another 11,400 units during the month.
The strong domestic performance extends Hyundai’s momentum into FY2027. Between April and August 2026, domestic sales grew 12.6 per cent YoY, according to the company.
The August numbers underline the continued strength of Hyundai’s portfolio in India’s passenger vehicle market, with models ranging from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs and electric vehicles.
Hyundai’s current line-up includes the Grand i10 NIOS, i20, i20 N Line, AURA, EXTER, VENUE, VENUE N Line, VERNA, CRETA, CRETA N Line, CRETA Electric, ALCAZAR, TUCSON and IONIQ 5.
Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, HMIL, said the record August domestic figure reflected demand for the company’s product portfolio.
The company operates 1,366 sales points and 1,550 service points across India, giving it a sizeable retail and after-sales network to support its domestic business.
While the domestic business accelerated, exports faced a more difficult road.
HMIL said its August exports were affected by logistical constraints arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia, along with the wider geopolitical environment during the month.
The company exported 11,400 units in August. Garg said Hyundai remains optimistic that export demand will strengthen in the coming months as geopolitical conditions improve.
HMIL’s export network spans markets across Africa, the Middle East, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, with its manufacturing facility near Chennai also serving as an important part of Hyundai Motor Company’s global export hub.
Alongside its conventional models, Hyundai is also building its electric vehicle presence in India through the CRETA Electric and all-electric IONIQ 5.
The company’s portfolio is backed by its Chennai-area manufacturing facility, which is optimised to produce its range of vehicle models.
For now, however, August’s headline story is firmly domestic: 54,396 units sold in India in a single month, giving Hyundai its strongest August yet even as geopolitical disruption put the brakes on part of its export business.
