HP to preload Perplexity AI app on more Windows PCs
New rollout brings sourced research, local AI workflows and connected apps to HP devices
MUMBAI: HP and Perplexity are expanding their partnership to bring AI capabilities directly to more Windows PCs, with HP set to preload the Perplexity Windows app on its devices.
The app will give HP customers access to AI-powered research and insights with cited sources, while Perplexity Computer can handle more complex tasks across local files, Microsoft 365, connected applications and the web.
The rollout begins with the HP ZBook Ultra G3a mobile workstation, with the Perplexity app preloaded in the taskbar. More HP Windows devices are expected to ship with the app in the coming months.
Perplexity Computer can work across Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, allowing users to analyse information, create documents and presentations, manage emails and collaborate using AI within tools they already use.
The Windows version can also work with files and folders stored locally on an HP PC. Users can, for instance, find files, update spreadsheets using current web information, revise Word documents or create PowerPoint presentations.
Perplexity said Computer connects with more than 400 apps and data sources, including Snowflake, Salesforce, HubSpot and Autodesk Revit. It can also orchestrate more than 15 AI models from companies including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, selecting models for different parts of a task.
A key addition for supported devices is Portable Computer, which allows users to run sensitive AI workflows locally. Users can download a local model and perform tasks such as data analysis and file synthesis without sending the work to the cloud.
Local processing can also reduce cloud costs and allow AI responses without an internet connection. For tasks requiring more advanced reasoning, users can authorise Portable to escalate work to the cloud, with the system alerting them before potentially sensitive information is shared.
Perplexity, HP and Autodesk have also integrated Portable Computer with Autodesk Revit through the Revit 2027 Multi Context Protocol (MCP) server, currently available as a tech preview.
The integration allows users to query an open Revit model using natural language, such as asking how many doors are on a particular floor or which doors meet a specified fire rating. Computer can identify relevant elements in Revit and export views, PDFs and schedules. The MCP server in this configuration is read-only and does not modify the Revit model.
The HP ZBook Ultra G3a is powered by AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO 400-series processors and is designed for demanding AI and graphics workloads. Portable Computer availability will depend on the device configuration.
Windows users whose PCs do not come with Perplexity preloaded can download the app through the Microsoft Store. Personal Computer for Windows is available to Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers using Windows 10 and Windows 11.
