MUMBAI: The grass may look greener elsewhere, but for India’s workforce, the best employers are those that know how to water both careers and wellbeing. In the battle for talent, pay alone is no longer enough to seal the deal.

Google has emerged as India’s most attractive employer brand in the Randstad Employer Brand Research (REBR) 2026, ahead of Tata Group and Amazon, as employees increasingly prioritise work-life balance, career progression and meaningful work over traditional workplace perks.

Now in its 16th edition in India and 26th globally, the study surveyed more than 1.75 lakh respondents across 34 markets, including nearly 3,500 respondents in India, covering economies that account for over 75 per cent of global economic activity.

The report suggests India’s workforce has entered the era of the “Balanced Employer”, where organisations are judged on the strength of their overall employee value proposition rather than isolated benefits. Employees increasingly expect employers to deliver meaningful work, career development, inclusivity, flexibility, wellbeing and competitive compensation in equal measure.

Mobility intentions remain high, with 49 per cent of respondents identifying work-life balance as their primary reason for leaving an employer. Lack of career growth followed at 42 per cent, while 41 per cent cited low compensation. Career advancement was particularly important for younger employees, with 43 per cent of millennials, 42 per cent of Gen Z, and 39 per cent of Gen X saying they would leave an organisation if growth opportunities were limited.

The Top 10 Most Attractive Employer Brands in India were:

  1. Google
  2. Tata Group
  3. Amazon
  4. Samsung India
  5. Infosys
  6. Reliance Industries
  7. ITC Group
  8. Hindustan Unilever
  9. Mahindra & Mahindra
  10. Dell Technologies

The research also found that employees increasingly associate job security with factors beyond salaries. Performance recognition and career continuity (47 per cent) ranked alongside reliable pay and benefits (47 per cent) as the strongest foundations of job security, followed closely by transparent communication (46 per cent).

Secondary benefits continue to matter, with career growth and development opportunities emerging as the most valued category, rated important by 90 per cent of respondents. Workplace comfort, flexible work arrangements, health and wellbeing, and retirement and financial security followed closely, each valued by 89 per cent of employees.

When it comes to work-life balance, respondents pointed to a positive work environment (52 per cent) as the biggest contributor, ahead of personal growth and fulfilment (40 per cent), flexible working arrangements (35 per cent) and health and wellbeing support (35 per cent). Women were slightly more likely than men to associate work-life balance with flexible working, at 37 per cent compared with 33 per cent.

The study also highlighted that digital talent has become the most demanding segment of the workforce. Around 73 per cent prioritised competitive salaries above all else and were 55 per cent more likely to leave due to limited career progression, compared with 40 per cent among operational talent and 43 per cent among professional talent.

Hybrid work continues to dominate workplace preferences, with around three in five employees working remotely at least part of the time. Hybrid working accounts for 42 per cent of these arrangements, while 63 per cent of Gen Z and 62 per cent of millennials work remotely at least some of the time, compared with 51 per cent of Gen X.

The findings underline a broader shift in India’s employment landscape: as competition for skilled professionals intensifies, companies are increasingly being judged not only by what they pay, but by how well they help employees grow, belong and maintain balance.
