Google India names Rukmini Vaish to lead consumer electronics business
Former Google industry manager takes charge as AI reshapes smartphones and consumer devices
MUMBAI: The next battleground for artificial intelligence may fit neatly into your pocket. As AI rapidly transforms smartphones and connected devices, Google India has elevated Rukmini Vaish to lead its Consumer Electronics business, signalling a sharper focus on one of the fastest-evolving technology categories.
Vaish announced that she has taken over as Head – Consumer Electronics at Google India, where she will lead partnerships and growth across the consumer devices ecosystem as AI increasingly becomes central to hardware experiences. She moves into the role after spending more than four years at Google as Industry Manager within the company’s Large Customer Solutions business, where she worked across the consumer technology and retail sectors, helping brands accelerate digital-first strategies and premiumisation initiatives.
Commenting on her appointment, Vaish said the smartphones and consumer electronics industry is evolving rapidly as hardware becomes the primary gateway to consumer AI. She added that she looks forward to building on Google’s existing partnerships while helping brands navigate the next phase of technological transformation.
Before joining Google in 2022, Vaish served as Head of Brand & Digital at GROHE, where she led the company’s branding, marketing communications and direct-to-consumer initiatives in India. She also founded hospitality venture TravelFolk and co-founded CollarFolk, India’s pet-friendly travel discovery platform. Earlier in her career, she held senior marketing roles at AkzoNobel India (Dulux Paints), driving brand management, product development and customer marketing across multiple portfolios. She also worked at Vodafone India, where she managed prepaid sales and channel marketing during the early stages of her career.
An MBA in Marketing from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, and an Economics graduate from Delhi University, Vaish brings nearly two decades of experience spanning consumer technology, retail, digital marketing and brand strategy.
Her appointment comes as global technology companies intensify investments in AI-enabled consumer devices, with smartphones, wearables and connected ecosystems emerging as key platforms for the next wave of artificial intelligence adoption.
