SINGAPORE: Google is moving its AI ambitions closer to the enterprise front line. Mitesh Agarwal has taken on an expanded role as vice president, applied AI engineering and forward deployed engineering (FDE), at the technology giant.

Based in Singapore, Agarwal will lead Google Cloud’s AI technology teams, including its forward deployed engineering units. The focus is on taking AI beyond promising demonstrations and embedding it in enterprise software that works in production.

Announcing the appointment on LinkedIn, Agarwal described the mandate as putting AI architects, technical product managers and forward deployed engineers alongside customers tackling complex business problems. The objective, he said, is to move from prototypes to production and connect AI deployments with measurable business outcomes.

Agarwal has spent more than six years at Google, holding senior technology and leadership roles across the Asia-Pacific region. Before the latest elevation, he served as managing director and APAC chief technology officer, overseeing technology, architecture, product strategy and go-to-market teams across Google Cloud’s portfolio.

His remit has covered AI, generative AI, analytics, databases, infrastructure, security, networking, Workspace and Apigee. He has also led AI transformation initiatives and worked with business leaders on technology strategy across the region.

Earlier, Agarwal was managing director for customer and partner engineering and regional director for customer engineering in South-east Asia. He also served as Google’s India CTO and customer engineering leader, based in Bengaluru.

Before Google, Agarwal spent more than nine years at Oracle in senior sales, consulting and technology leadership roles. His career also includes nearly nine years at Sun Microsystems and an early stint at Ramco Systems.

He is also a senior technology and AI adviser to investment firm Warburg Pincus, a role he took up in October 2025.

The new brief puts Agarwal at the point where Google’s AI pitch meets enterprise reality: getting the technology out of the demo room and into the business.
