Dabur Red launches Desh Ke Lal campaign with youth anthem and challenge
Independence Day campaign uses music and Instagram Reels to celebrate a new generation
MUMBAI: The nation’s next generation is brushing up on its own definition of pride. Dabur Red Toothpaste has launched ‘Desh Ke Lal’, an Independence Day campaign celebrating young Indians who question, speak up, take responsibility and define success on their own terms.
At the heart of the campaign is an original ‘Desh Ke Lal’ anthem, built around the refrain “Yeh hi toh Desh Ke Lal hain.” The song uses humour, music and contemporary youth language to portray a generation that is increasingly confident and expressive.
Lines including “Askin’ questions, ain’t no crime” and “We define what be success” give the anthem a distinctly youth-focused voice, while the campaign positions being a ‘Desh Ke Lal’ around attitudes rather than achievements or professions.
Dabur Red is taking the idea from screen to social media with the ‘Pass the Desh Ke Lal Hook Step Challenge’ on Instagram. The Reel-led format invites creators and audiences to recreate the anthem’s signature choreography, tag Dabur Red and nominate someone else to continue the chain.
The challenge is built around participation rather than a one-off performance. Each participant can add their own interpretation of the hook step before passing it to the next person, creating a rolling chain of Reels and bringing more people into the campaign.
That format also makes user-generated content central to the campaign. With every nomination potentially triggering another Reel, the brand is looking to turn the hook step into a social multiplier while giving participants room to put their own spin on it.
Prashant Agarwal, Head of Marketing – Oral Care, Dabur India Ltd, said the campaign reflects the changing ways in which younger consumers think and express themselves, adding that the hook-step challenge gives audiences a way to make the campaign’s message their own.
The campaign has been conceptualised and executed by Kandid Kanvass, combining an anthem-led film with the participatory social media format.
Saarthak Juneja, Creative and Director, Co-founder, Kandid Kanvass, said the team wanted to define today’s ‘Desh Ke Lal’ through how they think rather than what they do, with the hook step giving audiences something to actively participate in rather than simply watch.
The campaign will be amplified across Dabur Red’s digital and social media platforms, with the Instagram challenge inviting audiences to join the ‘Desh Ke Lal’ chain and keep the movement going.
