Coinbase appoints Anthony Armstrong to its board of directors
Former Morgan Stanley and Musk companies executive joins board’s audit committee
MUMBAI: Coinbase is adding some Wall Street and Silicon Valley muscle to its board. The cryptocurrency exchange has appointed Anthony Armstrong as an independent director, with the executive also joining its Audit Committee.
Armstrong brings experience spanning traditional finance, technology and government operations, a combination Coinbase said fits its focus on efficient execution and scaling its business.
He spent nearly a decade at Morgan Stanley, where he built and led one of the investment bank’s most active global technology mergers and acquisitions practices. He eventually became vice chairman of investment banking.
Armstrong later moved into government, serving as a senior adviser at the Department of Government Efficiency in the Executive Office of the President. In that role, he worked on improving the efficiency of large and complex government institutions.
More recently, Armstrong served as chief financial officer across companies founded or led by Elon Musk, including xAI and X Corp.. His responsibilities included overseeing financial operations at some of the technology sector’s most closely watched businesses.
For Coinbase, the appointment comes as the company continues to operate at the intersection of financial services and emerging technology. Armstrong’s background gives the board experience across investment banking, high-growth technology businesses and large-scale organisational efficiency.
His addition also strengthens Coinbase’s financial oversight, with Armstrong taking a seat on the Audit Committee alongside his board role.
Coinbase said Armstrong’s track record of improving efficiency and executing at scale aligns with its operating philosophy, which emphasises moving quickly while concentrating resources on work with the greatest potential impact.
The appointment adds another senior finance and technology executive to Coinbase’s board as the company navigates the increasingly complex relationship between digital assets, traditional financial markets and the wider technology industry.
