MUMBAI: Mechanics spend years learning their craft under the hood, but Castrol is giving that expertise a graduation day of its own. The lubricant brand has held its first “Castrol Super Mechanic” graduation ceremony, recognising the skills and dedication of mechanics across India.

The initiative, titled ‘Hunar – Castrol Super Mechanic’, builds on Castrol Super Mechanic, an initiative launched in 2017 to upskill and recognise India’s mechanic community through technical training, masterclasses and recognition programmes.

Conceptualised and executed by Schbang, the latest campaign combines hands-on learning with a formal graduation ceremony designed to celebrate the expertise mechanics have built over years of working on vehicles.

More than 5,000 mechanics attended dedicated training sessions across over 40 cities, led by automotive experts. The programme included BS6 Diagnosis Training and Vehicle Mechanical Systems & Maintenance Training, both ASDC-certified diagnostic training modules.

Following the training, participating mechanics were invited to a graduation ceremony, where each was conferred the title of “Castrol Super Mechanic”.

The recognition included a number-plate-style plaque and an ASDC certification, giving the mechanics a tangible mark of the skills and knowledge they had developed through the programme.

Castrol India and South Asia vice president – marketing Kaushik Vedula said, “For decades, Castrol has been a strong support to the mechanic community. Every mechanic we meet has a story of learning their craft through experience, perseverance, and years of hands-on work. Their knowledge powers mobility every day, but it rarely gets the recognition it deserves. Castrol Super Mechanic was created by Castrol to change that, celebrating their expertise and shining a spotlight on the skills that keep millions of vehicles on the road.”

For Schbang, the idea behind the campaign was to give experience-based learning the same sense of recognition traditionally associated with formal education.

Schbang creative director – copy Hariharan Subramanian said, “Some of the most valuable expertise in this country doesn’t come with a degree. It is built over years of doing, learning and doing again. The real people who run this country literally embody that knowledge every day. Our idea was to challenge that belief itself – that only formal learning deserves a formal moment of recognition. If years in a classroom can culminate in a graduation, years spent mastering a craft should be worthy of one too, right? Hunar – Castrol Super Mechanic brings that thought to life by giving the skills and experience of mechanics the recognition they deserve.”

The campaign moves Castrol Super Mechanic beyond technical education to focus on community recognition and professional pride.

Through training, certification and celebration, Hunar aims to acknowledge the people whose expertise keeps vehicles on the road, while strengthening Castrol’s long-standing association with India’s mechanic community.
