Bajaj Capital appoints Samir Dewan as group CEO to drive business integration
Dewan brings three decades of banking and wealth management experience to the role
MUMBAI: Bajaj Capital is putting a fresh spin on its leadership playbook. The financial services company has appointed Samir Dewan as its group CEO, with the move aimed at building greater integration across its businesses and strengthening its capabilities.
Dewan steps into the role with nearly three decades of experience across banking, wealth management and financial services. His appointment comes as Bajaj Capital looks to bring its businesses closer together and build a more integrated operating approach.
Prior to joining Bajaj Capital, Dewan was with IndusInd Bank, where he served as EVP, head of wealth management and client experience. He has held the position since September 2016, based in Gurgaon.
His career also includes a stint at RBC, where he served as chief operating officer, emerging markets, between October 2011 and July 2016 in Singapore.
Before RBC, Dewan spent more than a decade with ABN AMRO Bank in Singapore, holding CFO and COO responsibilities. His tenure at the bank spanned from 2000 to 2011, giving him experience across finance and operations in an international banking environment.
Dewan began his career in the banking sector with ANZ Grindlays Bank, where he worked as a senior manager between 1997 and 2000. He previously worked with Bank of America as a manager from 1994 to 1996.
His academic background includes an MBA in business administration and management from Delhi University, where he studied from 1992 to 1994. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in business and commerce from the university, completed between 1988 and 1991.
The appointment adds a senior banking and wealth management perspective to Bajaj Capital’s leadership as the company focuses on greater coordination across its operations. With experience spanning domestic and international financial institutions, Dewan is set to lead the next phase of integration and capability building at the group.
